dropping in real quick just to give my thoughts on this album.

oceania got me into the band when i was 14. when monuments was coming out, i was excited just to be hearing new music from my favorite band, even if that era (2014-2015) really altered my perception of billy. i felt increasingly alienated as a fan, but at the end of the day, i liked both albums. monuments wasn't a good pumpkins album, insofar as it didn't sound like what an sp album should/could sound like. but it had its hooks.

i can't tell if this new album upsets me or angers me more. nonsensical lyricisms ala ogilala. the worst production and vocals i have EVER heard on a corgan album. that tease in the first 30 seconds of marchin' on, and billy now telling fans that ask about it to fuck off. couldn't tell that jimmy's on this at all. i might be able to guess james is playing on it based on one or two little guitar licks. the only song i kind of like is silvery sometimes, but even that i would put below about half of monument's songs. not even shitting you. oh, and the titles are all embarrassing. and i may never memorize the full title of this thing. it's not worth it.

the only thing this album has over monuments is better cover art. and the silvery video was kind of a fun watch

bring on the machina reissue. or don't, because i really don't trust billy right now

ive got a similar situation. i was around 13 i think when oceania came out, but rather I was introduced to belly by my father who gave me all his old SP CDs he had when he was in his early twenties, including SD Pisces and adore. he told me to listen to SD first as it was the best one, and now 7 years later here we are.

Couldn't agree more.

I figured a new album with Iha and Chamberlin would be way better than the SP3 stuff, super disappointing that it's not the case.

Feel like there should be a poll that asks what era people got into the band with versus how they feel about the album.

I like the album as a whole. It is short but the songs themselves don't feel short. 8 songs is a short album when you are not Metallica busting out 7 minute songs.

This is definitely an album that will have a bipolar fan reaction. Not that it matters what other people think though.

I feel those two projects were of different "song cycles", or at least, were different types of songs. The Oceania songs, to me, still sound like they are still a continuation of the the Teargarden stuff, fleshed out with those band members. The Monuments tracks seems to be their own thing: Corgan hyper-refining these basically solo tracks to be the ultimate pop songs.

To what you are saying, I'd say a better comparison is to cram Teargarden and Oceania together as a thing, and Monuments and Ogilala together as a thing.

4. Travels
5. Drum + Fife
6. Silvery Sometimes
7. Dorian
8. Marchin’ On

it would make more sense to do this with Shiny and Ogilala

Not really. SosB sounds like a continuation of the Monuments style.

Whenever I see this album abbreviated as “SosB” my brain automatically thinks, “Sons of Bitches”.

I think it's pretty cool an album like Oceania could get someone into SP.

Seems impossible to me but it's interesting

travels, while inoffensive upon the first couple listens, has quickly become the worst song on the album. Its not worth the time it would take to describe why so I'll just say its fucking boring with embarassing lyrics

The vocal melody is so asinine. It's Owata Part II.

Oceania got people into the band because it’s not a bad album

It doesn’t feel like a SP album but it’s a good album

There's a lot of back and forth about whether SosB sucks or not, but I'll be honest, I listened to Oligaga only twice, and I've already listened to SosB about ten times, and I will listen to it at least ten more, because whether the songs suck or not, I listen to music while I work, and the songs sound right. Since I'm only every paying 25% attention to the music, it doesn't have to be top notch, it just has to be pleasant. SosB is, Oligaga is no, IMO. So from that standpoint, it's a winner for me.

I think overall, it's very much like MtaE, so much so that I question how many of these tracks were actually leftover from the abandoned Day for Night album.
