i was vocally against the smashing of the guitars when you brought it up as an idea pitch in another thread

i think it resonates with ppl because they can remember times when they wanted a guitar but didn't know how to get one or couldn't get one, afford one, etc.

i played a stella parlour guitar i got at a flea market for $10 for years before i got an electric with an amp. and those were pieces of shit too but it cost $100 something you don't really have when you are 12 or w/e.

if i had a kid and he/she was like "i wanna learn (loud musical instrument)!" i would probably not want it to happen.

i was lucky, my parents got me like a $150 dollar guitar to start, and i got a nice one after a few years (that I still use). but yeah, I could never smash a guitar because of what others have mentioned. someone could have used that guitar, no matter how crappy. i guess if it's already physically broken to where its not usable and not worth the money to fix it, go ahead.

It's probably struck a nerve with a bunch of people, but we're not your real life friends (or realistically even your online friends) here, so i'm just being straight with you. I live in a student neighborhood and it makes me absolutely sick to see how many perfectly good shit, a lot of it almost new, gets wasted every time they move back home in the summer. If you don't have a use for something, and it's potentially valuable to someone else, why not give it away? sure its yours, it's your right to destroy it, but it's wasteful and at the risk of coming across like a bleeding heart hippie, the world does not need to be any more wasteful than it already is.

I mean here you can argue the use was for a art project...in this case a video. I mean yeah it's hardly a sin punishable by death or deserving to get blasted for it mercilessly on a messageboard but I can see the point sorta... I don't know, personally I'm not even so much offended by the smashed guitars, just the cliché.

also I believe acoustic guitars are potentially evil........

the guitar thing wasn't even like necessary or anything

in some cases, a voracious live performance or something, that woulda kinda make total sense but here it's just sorta a random part in an otherwise enjoyable experience (both vid & song)

even the sorta thin quality of the recording gives me a warm & fuzzy kinda feelin based on the fact that it more or less reminds me of shit i'd do in high school, recording from headphones & shitty-ish usb mics and whatnot
