the reality is that status symbols are powerful in all cultures, and with urban black culture the official merchandise is important because in places like New York City there's so much bootleg merch that having the NBA hologram and even the hat size sticker on the bill shows that you have the dough to spend on official NBA merch. that's really it, but the country club just can't get over this
