Billy might be the best of his peers, and it hasn't left him one bit. The solos sound great.

He did a lot of the “sing it!” and “c’mon Houston!” stuff during the big singles. He still did the cheesy posturing during Ava Adore that he did on the Manson tour.
It’s also because the only rock station is the joke that is 94.5.

Yeah because Try is such a stand out track...pop tart, lol give me a break. Perfect may be a watered down attempt at 1979 but Try is an even shittier attempt. It's like an imitation of a copy.

Try is great fite me

down in the sleep at the airplane races
is one of those great lines that just sound like Corgan. sort of weird word association/nostalgia vibes

also
when it rains it pours down the back of the bitter son
desperate for love and loves everyone

is sublime

During a recent Smashing Pumpkins show, Corgan experiences microphone issues at the beginning of Hummer. He slaps the crap out of it and it starts working again.

This is a greatest hits show and Perfect had to of charted a lot higher and is more known than Try. That's basically all I am trying to say I guess.

Lol, when you describe it like that I can see what your saying and most likely what Corgan was going for. It is a very interesting line.

try is way better than perfect, yes. and it has good lyrics despite the pop tart line.

Perfect has better vocals and is way more melodic. BC has the voice of an angel on Perfect.

I can hardly remember the lyrics to Try.

I just looked them and now I'm getting that thing where a repeated word loses its meaning with the word "try"

Try was also a terrible pick for a single, and the gritty music video didn't help. They should have gone with This Time or Age of Innocence instead.

Exactly, don't get me wrong I am one of the few that actually really dig machina and This Time is a much stronger song and age of innocence would of been better too. When they announced Try as a single I remember thinking wtf?

Put me down as another one who prefers Perfect to Try. Try has grown on me over the years but I still remember hearing it for the first time when I first listened to Machina; it was the moment when I realized that the album was going to be a massive fucking disappointment. That “bah bah bah” vocal sample and the “pop tart” line just pissed me off. All I wanted was one more killer rock record from SP and instead I got an overproduced mess with a few good songs.

Houston show was pretty amazing. I teared up during For Martha / To Shiela. Porcelina was insanely good.Watching Metric in Dallas now.

I read a mis-lyric here at some point as "pop star, what's our mission", and it's better that way.

Sounds like try is all about the band. As with many songs on Machina.

Sounds like trying to get some sleep while waiting at the airport.

It's interesting that all Billy had to do was a typical greatest hits/nostalgia tour with James involved to get the public and all of the old fans back on board. The reviews across the web have been phenomenal. It really is a hell of an impressive comeback. Hell, most of the press and people seem to have forgotten that the last 10 years even happened!

I'm not sure how I feel about it all exactly. It's sort of a mixed bag for me. On one hand as a fan who's been engaged for the past 12 years, it feels a bit cheap that he's went back on everything he so passionately stood for and has now succumbed to the nostalgia role for the shameless cash grab... On the other hand, if he wasn't doing this he'd likely be trudging along with some nobodies who would not have the musical abilities to do the old music justice while likely making subpar to shit new music... So with that considered, he's probably made the right choice.

My enthusiasm will grow if there's some great new music released, but Solara being the only new music to support this trek feels a little weak. I dunno. It's almost like I've been burned by the band too many times, so now It's like I'm cautiously optimistic but as much as I try, I'm just not sharing in the enthusiasm that most people here seem to be enjoying.

What do you guys make of the whole thing?

Am I hearing synth in the verses of hummer? Not sure I'm a fan of that. Is that on the album but mixed really low?
