So was it an attempted hanging, like he said it would be in his post? I'm guessing yes because of the marks on his neck. People were saying it wasn't a genuine attempt, but it would take a lot of timing and luck to have someone save you from hanging, even if people were alerted to your intentions beforehand

It's actually hard to properly hang yourself. It's not like an execution where they drop you and snap your neck. If you hang yourself against a wall or door and then change your mind I would imagine you could keep yourself alive but stuck for a very longtime.
