What pisses me off the most is that the band Omar is leaving for sucks, if the one song they've put out is any indication.

Hmmm, that's too bad because I just got into these guys. Francis The Mute is quite a great album. I nearly pooped my pants the first time I heard the crescendo of the title track, where it starts out to just sound like random guitar notes, and then the whole band kicks in playing the randomness and then you realize it was never random at all, that it was an organized riff. How the fuck do you compose something like that? Fuck.

This neeeee-ver happ-eeeeeened
And I saaaaaaaaw youuuu leeeeeeave

i'm one of those bad music fans who like the last three TMV albums more than the first three.

I seriously doubt you'll hear anything from them, I doubt they would have put anything out in the first place, and definitely not now.

i used to have a fan edit that put that song at the start of the album, it actually crossfades perfectly into the start of cygnus

i played tremulant a few days ago for the first time in ages. I thought that was the best one, but it didn't really do anything for me anymore. I never liked them after de-loused anyway.

If anyone might have a passing interest here is what I'm taking about:
http://albumsthatneverwere.blogspot....-mute-2cd.html

As I said, I 1) took the vinyl rip of the album and edited out the locked grooves so the album plays exactly like the CD, 2) added the title track to the beginning and 3) edited Cassandra Gemini into one track instead of eight. There, now you have a Frances The Mute that isn't brickwalled to shit, and has the tracks restored properly.

highschool me would've been gutted but they simply aren't the same band that put out deloused and FTM and I haven't really liked anything since those anyway EVEN though I always tried to like their new stuff

Some of it is pretty good but a lot of it blows. More often than not his solo stuff seems pretty Half-assed and unfocused. I give him mad props for being so prolific, but Volta was where he cut the bullshit and created refined pieces of art. I know I'm in the extreme minority here but I've loved everything I've ever heard from the Mars Volta. The Bosnian rainbows track on the other hand is like listening to Miles Davis play in some boring ska band-a waste of a instrumental genius on boring paint by numbers rock , but maybe we'll luck out and the rest of the album will be better.

The only thing i've taken away from any of this is being gobsmacked by the number of people who like TMV better than ATDI.

That's no excuse. I was eleven when Relationship Of Command came out and fifteen when Frances The Mute came out but god dammit I know which is the better band.

well shit man i'm the same age as you but TMV were basically pink floyd to the kids at my highschool (myself included), Frances was one of the first records I ever bought. I didn't know who ATDI were for probably 2-3 years after I heard TMV.
