I mean, it isn't terrible, but shit. It has no substance whatsoever. At least TFE had some songs with SOME interesting lyrics, like CameraEye and Now and Then. I mean he isn't even trying to say anything with meaning.

Damn shame. I was expecting something good from this one from the album sampler, didn't realize I'd already heard the whole fucking track.

This ones great! I really love the atmospheric vibe of it. I think it's the kind of track that'll sound a ton better when it's not heard with the shitty you tube quality.

I don't even know who his intended audience is supposed to be with these kind of lyrics |

I don't think there is one. I think they're only meant to be used in a musically pleasing way rather than having any deep, lyrical significance.

Yeah, the lyrics in Anti-hero and Being Beige among others could definitely be seen that way.
Yet again, these are songs from the man who brought us Widow Wake My Mind. |

the repetition is a play for radio. and it's completely cynical and wrongheaded, but what can you do.

from what i gather this album is sort of a tribute to 80s rock... i'd rather him be blase about the lyrics here than shoehorn some heady handed lyricism in like adore or machina. i don't think he really has anything to "say" with this one
though his lyrics have become completely unrelatable over the years, generally speaking |

I just remembered that there's a song called Dorian by Danish singer Agnes Obel...better song and better lyrics...
"..They won't know who we are So we both can pretend It's written on the mountains A line that never ends As the devil spoke we spilled out on the floor And the pieces broke and the people wanted more And the rugged wheel is turning another round Dorian, carry on, Will you come along to the end Will you ever let us carry on Swaying like the children, Singled out for praise The inside out on the open, With the straightest face As the sad-eyed woman spoke we missed our chance, The final dying joke caught in our hands And the rugged wheel is turning another round Dorian, carry on, Will you come along to the end Will you ever let us carry on Dorian will you follow us down.." |

I don't know what the angst is. Corgan wanted to make a pop album. He made a damn good one from what I can tell. Has he ever made an unabashed pop album like this one before?

The thing about pop is the melodies have to actually be enjoyable to listen to

And if you're playing pop you're making the lyrics that much more important

I kinda have that sorta. A little. I think we at least all have this syndrome to some extent. Or most of us. i think it is more pronounced now surely because of the age we live in. Like a syndrome like this was probably a lot rarer a 100 years back and more cause most people had other shit to do than think about their appearance and wernet constantly bombarded with images of young fit looking celebs. Or even not so young ones that still look young because they can spend their time and money making sure they do
As for the song, well its like a lot of the stuff on this record i hear so far, the music starts and i like it enough...than Bolly starts singing and i'm like...oh...meh. I feel the same about Run2me. |

isn't it the opposite? the vocals are more at the front but the lyrics in pop matter little. Well...yeah but you have to have some sort of broad reaching lyrics. Obvious lines about universal topics like break ups or your uncontrollable need to party tonight and how fun that's gonna be or about how good girls actually do want it (and they know it) or how if a man liked it so much, why didn't he put a ring on it? (fairly dated reference i know but it just came to mind for some reason)

you can still listen to it here:
http://www.spreaker.com/user/johnlau...ected=true#_=_ It's a good song, ruined by the lack of proper lyrics. I think that's a good description of the whole album. |

Quote:
It takes emphasis away from the instrumentation and redirects it onto the vocal melody making the lyrics very apparent |
