Growing up and getting drum pointers from Jimmy Chamberlin and playing on his own kit. What a privilege!

One day he's gonna look back on those photos with a big smile!

So I went to the Sota show tonight. My two cents is below.

Bad or needs improvement:
More Katie Cole harmonies would be good
The show drrrraaaaggged from blew away until cherub rock
Some songs seemed slowed down - rocket and porcelina, for example
Could have done without try try try and TBITEITB- killed momentum that had been regained going into final stretch
For a show that is “timed to the minute” there sure was a lot of down time between songs. Lordy the whole show suffered from a lack of constant flow.

The good:
Billy’s voice was good overall. A little high in the mix chuckle chuckle. No screams and plenty of dropped constinents, but damn he was mostly into it
James shreds
Billy shreds
Jimmy is a God
Jeff was fine
Jack Bates is named Jack and owns at least one bass guitar
The main blonde in the videos is stacked and To Shiela was sexy even though I was bored

Overall we got our $88 total cost worth. Also the idiotic 52 year old shitfaced woman behind me paid $440 for two fucking upper deck tickets because she bought from a ticket master reseller even though there were like 60 open seats in our section. She was annoying AF and probably black out drunk and I felt bad for her adult son who was trying to rein her in. Her favorite song on Mellon Collie is Soma - she told me.

There are at least 2 audio sources from tonight one being Schoeps. I've only heard the other but it sounds nice. I'll post more later. All I'm saying now is that it was nice to see James and Jimmy engaged and enjoying playing with BC again. James was very talkative and held the show together during some awkward moments.

Was in St. Paul last night. That was fucking awesome. The Star Tribune says the show was "bloated". Well yeah for 150 fucking dollars I would hope so. Billy has a grandiose sense of humor and his ego was on full display last night. And I loved every minute of it. He just seems... different from the 2008 shows where he was telling fans to take dicks out of their mouths. He knows what the people want and he is giving it to them. And having fun with the idolatry and hero worship of it all. x

He was really showing off on Rocket/Siva and a few others. Just shredding the fuck out of those songs. Seeing James was surreal. His presence alone seemed to elevate the performances. And holy shit Jimmy has only gotten better.

Also glad Jeff got a chance to showcase on (lol) Stairway to Heaven. At this point he has been in "Smashing Pumpkins" as long as James, like it or not. And he's clearly a more technically proficient guitarist. I was skeptical of having 3 guitarists but they actually complemented each other, even when that just meant allowing Billy to prance around like a rock god with his flamboyant costumes.

Best show I've seen since 2007, no question. Although the Aragon in 2008 is up there as well. Everyone was tight and seemed to be having fun with it.

yeah I forgot about that. Those moments really emphasized the stabilizing effect that James had on the original incarnation of the band... like hey Bill not everyone gets your weirdo sense of humor, maybe don't fuck around with Prince

No, the reason the kids don't like guitars is that they're weiners who have spent their entire lives listening to (mostly) terrible music.

Might be a week or so before I get the entire set ready for upload to the LMA but for now Siva, Soma and Porcelina have been uploaded here. Take your pick; FLAC, 320k mp3 or WAV.

Recording sounds great! I was also there last night. Tribune/PP can suck it, it was awesome! I will say this band attracts a terrible crowd though, I wanted to murder most of the people around me on the floor.

i was at the twin cities show, here's some observations.

billy's vocals were pretty good. james did a bunch of talking between songs and they acted nice and appreciative. billy didn't really address the crowd until near the end when he talked/joked about prince like everyone who plays in mpls and is forced to come up with something to talk about. he also mentioned having been wrong saying rock was dead in 1998 or whatever.

can't remember all the guitars they used but james did play a fender some which is unlike his usual les pauls.

the place was more packed than i expected. seemed like it must have been 90% full

it's weird but i came away thinking that jeff's soloing sounded better when he was doing more of a chaotic noisy style than when he was playing more melodic stuff.

i felt like the vocal melody in landslide was sung differently? (lower in the scale). could be crazy though

on the left side of the stage is a piano and keyboard which katie and jimmy played on 33 - is it just me or is that literally the only place in the show they are used? seems silly

mark mcgrath videos were ridiculous and goofy and dumb. almost seemed like james could have written them

many dumbasses in the crowd. as stupid as a lot of the marketing of the tour is i think they nailed it in appealing to them.

metric was not the worst i guess but all their songs are like the same super straight beat. it really highlighted to me how much the pumpkins music stands out because of the grooves and jimmy's drumming. also the singer said "we're metric" between almost every song.

The kids don't like guitars because who's encouraging them to play? 70 year old guitarists? John f**king Mayer?

Thanks! Yeah, lots of drunk idiots around. Not knocking that because I do drink I just don't act like a hyena at shows even when not recording. Anyways, seemed like a lot of folks who don't get out very often. After The Everlasting Gaze I heard a guy say "man, what was that last song?!" his friends reply was "man, I have no fucking idea." Can't expect casual fans to be familiar with Machina but it was funny. Not sure if it made it on to the recording yet.

There are two pops right next to each other from when a cable was accidentally bumped. Nothing too major, just annoying and I want to figure out what to do about that before uploading to the LMA.

Man, I completely missed the memo of Chino Moreno coming up for "Bodies" & "Snail"

All the noise about Sugar McGrath must have pushed that to the side
