i feel like the tea party express has petered out quite a bit and the fact that they hate RINOs so much was obvious in the random flavor of the month leading the primaries all the time

i really don't think they're going to be as enthused to vote for that guy, and i dunno, doesn't seem like there were as many insane tea baggers winning GOP congress primaries this go-round

i think i would know since wonkette is my go to source for this week in CRAY CRAY

It's not hard to just look at swing states' polls and see how this will work out in the electoral college. Last I checked, Obama was ahead in Ohio and Florida by a decent amount. If he locks up Virginia or Colorado then it's over.

Going by approval rating is not at all a good indicator for Obama because a lot of democrats who will vote for him don't necessarily approve of him. So don't expect the magic 47% number to mean much when it comes down to election day. A lot of people disapprove of Obama, but they won't be voting Romney. Obama's still higher in the stupid "likability" polls.

The popular vote might be close but in the electoral college I think Obama should take big states that matter. The big concerns are preventative measures scaring poor/dark people from making it to polls.

i've seen the video and i still don't see what the deal is. if it was a NAACP conference or something then i could understand. but i don't see how telling a largely white audience "wall street will put you back in chains" really amounts to race baiting unless you really want to stretch things out

i can't blame the romney campaign for jumping on it though

I thought it was a decently sized black audience, thats what the hubbub was. I also took the they as regarding Romney, not wallstreet. They would unshackle wallstreet, and put them in chains, but maybe not.

I think its dumb for the romney camp to say anything about it.

I dont think it had anything to do with race either, i think it was just really really poor choice of words with wannabe everyman intonation.

yeah i was reading an article on huffpo the other day (and i read plenty of other things besides huffpo btw) that argued the biggest story of the election, and arguably the biggest reason why they lost, is the extent to which they were divorced from reality. i know i've made that point alot but it has to be reiterated when you have micheal barone and george will making the case up until election eve it would be a romney landslide. i know these aren't geniuses or anything but they're not dick morris either. it's seriously perplexing

I think some of it has to do with how insular the party has gotten. There is no meaningful discourse with any who doesn't tow the ideology, so it fosters this sense of being a powerful majority.

If you are referring to moderate Republicans when you say "those who don't tow the ideology", then that is correct. They need to get the fuck out of the party and either go join the Democrats or form some kind of small middle of the road 3rd party.

If we have to be a minority party for 40 years again, in exchange for having an ideologically solidifed membership, then I have zero problem with that.

Standing on principles is vastly more important that trying to figure out how to bring more redbreegulls into the party. Just my opinion.
