I actually liked it. And if bill recorded it in 1998 instead of 1995 it prob would have sounded like this

i like Yeah Yeah Yeah's first album (not to discount the rest, I just haven't heard it) but this kinda reminds me of Lorde's cover of "Everybody Rules the World," where it's more focused on making it sound "ultra-modern" rather than actually salvaging the strengths of the song. of course, Lorde's cover works as a pretty serviceable intro to Tears for Fears shows, but I doubt Bill's gonna start opening Shiny Round 2 tour w/ this

Elph either:

a) doesn't remember the YYYs cause he was four years old when they were popular
b) was extremely into them and now is embarrassed by liking anything that isn't stiff-collared bloviations by pasty white guys and is feigning ignorance to throw us off the trail; or
c) is so much of a dumbass that he didn't listen to a band he would clearly enjoy because of their popularity

i mean there's also the possibility that d) he only likes music made by men with lowkey shitty attitudes to intimacy

but i'm not convinced it's that last one

Elphy only likes the 80's shit. Elph doesn't fuck with early 00's stuff, unless it's Muse, Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand lol

don't really like it, and don't really feel it's any fault of karen o necessarily, the song itself is just annoying after all these years

"Yeah Yeah Yeahs started as a 2000s post-punk revival band, now they're the new Tears for Fears. I like Tears for Fears, so this pleases me greatly."

I kinda liked how this cover started out but it bugs me that she just ends the song so abruptly. It felt like it was building up to something but then it’s just over. Feels like a waste.
