Nope. That was his original plans till he got a record deal. BMG then decided they should work more on promoting Monuments and DFN was pushed back to April 16.

I think theres a good chance it's being re-worked with Jimmy.

The recording was said to be nearly finished when that lame cock-rock Nickelback guy announced he was going on the Plain songs/Manson tours as the SP drummer. Shortly after the guy got the boot. It's possible that he was the drummer who recorded with the group and reasonable to assume that once there was a fallout that they'd have a do-over with a different drummer.

is there actually any meat to all the jimmy noise or is it entirely wishful thinking?

Billy would have to be stupid not to at least consider it, especially given how badly MTAE was received. Imagine the marketing buzz if Jimmy Chamberlin came back to the Pumpkins and played on one last album

having jimmy back would probably result in it sounding like a bad smashing pumpkins album, as opposed to sound like something too bad to possibly be a smashing pumpkins album

But even Zeitgeist, with its poor production and execution, had some songs on it that were saved by Jimmy and certainly made listenable. If Jimmy comes back for more, I think it will sound better than Zeitgeist. But no, it will not be as good as anything pre-2007.

The worst controllable thing about ZG was the bad mixing and production, which was pretty good on MTAE. If Billy gets the same guy for the next album, plus Jimmy drumming, it might be the best SP album since 2000.

Now if he gets over his 'write singles, reach the kids, can't sound like siamese dream etc' nonsense, then it could actually be incredible. but there's no use wishing for that.

Zeitgeist could have been saved by four things:
1) A good acoustic 'God and Country' (instead of piece of shit that ended up on the album)
2) An awesome 15 minute 'Gossamer'
3) This is a big one, good mixing and production
4) Dropping Cum On Letz Go and Starzzz

"I see the Pumpkins as sort of an open source collective at this point. It’s whoever feels right at the time. It was the right time for Jimmy. But people shouldn’t assume he’s on the next record—we’ve already basically finished the next record. So what I don’t want to do is get into the repeat dynamics about what the original band is and isn’t." - Billy, July 23

Jimmy is not playing in it. The album was planned to be totally finished late September, it's like 2 months ago.

I agree with most of this. I think Oceania has better songs overall than Z for example, but Z comes closer to meeting expectations from an SP record because of Jimmy.

Z has some real moments of brilliance. Again, it sounds more like a weak Pumpkins album than most of what has come after, which has just been like wtf how is this smashing pumpkins. The way the guitars and vocals are produced does totally ruin the listenability though. Bleeding the Orchid and 7 Shades might be decent songs, but especially now that it's been so long since it came out, the production just sounds like some kind of weird joke.

If the guitars in 7 shades were twice as beefy and the vocals accounted for half as many tracks, it would totally change the energy of the song. It still wouldn't be a great song, but it would absolutely be a lot better.

Same for Doomsday Clock

it sounds quite good live

Or Pomp and circumstances. Great live, but hokey as fuck on the album. also no hihat clicking

anyway I think a big thing ZG was missing is...well, James Iha. I had a long paragraph about dynamics and Porcelina and shit but essentially, it's missing James

top tier: Tarantula only. Awesome song, perfect single. Good all the way through. Sick guitar.
2nd tier: Bring the Light and US. Half hit and half miss.
3rd tier: Doomsday, 7 Shades, Bleeding the Orchid, That's the Way, Neverlost. Ideas which could have gone in good directions but really fall flat because of bad execution failing to cover up lazy songwriting.
4th tier: Starz, For God, Pomp, Come on Let's Go. These would not be salvageable no matter what. Pomp sounds like a fucking Enya song.

again I think Oceania is a better collection of songs, but the lack of Jimmy makes it less of a Pumpkins album to me and probably to many listeners. Monuments and the other Teargarden songs are so bad in comparison to either Z or O though they basically don't even count in my mind.

So who's the drummer on the record then? The guy from Theory Of a Deadman? I'm not even gonna check out the record if that's the case

Fuck yeah! there you have it!

Billy said they had no drums yet right after the Nickelback lackey got the boot... Probably decided to go another direction and with Jimmy joining the tour right after it seems clear as day that we'll see a BC/JC SP album again.

Fucking Eh
