Default Remember how exciting it was when the first clip of United States came out?

That minute long clip of the duh duh duh duh duh part from the Grand Rex show. It was so exciting and the band seemed to be back then Zeitgeist came out and I realized I’d never get excited about anything the band did ever again

Very fitting that the song United States drags on way too long and wears out it’s welcome just like the country

There was a lot of big-time hype surrounding Zeitgeist. Looking back now after all of these years, it's quite extraordinary in regards to how fast it all imploded.

I think the lukewarm Fillmore shows started it and Zeitgeist killed it

That's odd. I remember thinking Zeitgeist was quite an impressive return. It obviously has flaws, but it was a pretty cool statement. It was fun having the band back and everything. Which is part of the reason why it's sorta cheap to roll out the same game-plan 10 years later but with Iha involved.

I sort of agree. When Zeitgeist came out I did love elements of it but it was only recently when people on here said that he had lost the feminine side that it clicked. When it was out I was living in a flat in an old Georgian terrace building converted to flats that was about to be demolished and I was the only tenant and could record without feeling embarrassed, but was also able to play music ridiculously loud, and I'd play Doomsday Clock with a pretty hefty sound system thinking it was awesome, and childishly showing off the song to everyone in radius, but the album did miss a lot and that really has been missing from his songwriting since.

Unhappy

Such important lyrics to a reminiscence on Jimmy Hendrix's distorting "Star Spangled Banner" and classic guitar solos of the seventies:

Smashing Pumpkins Lyrics
"United States"

Tired eyes
Closed for days
There's no regret
'Cause there's no place
I don't know
What I believe
But if I feel safe
What do I need

A home
A home
A home

Revolution
Revolution
Revolution blues
What will they do
Revolution
Revolution
Revolution blues
What will they do to me
What will they do to me
What will they do to me
What will they do to me

Dulcet tongues
Whisper fast
The future yearns
Right now's the past
Rouse me soon
The end draws nigh
Who's side are you on
Your blood you cannot buy

Revolution
Revolution
Revolution blues
What will they do
Revolution
Revolution
Revolution blues
What will they do to you

Well I
I feel alright
So tonight
I got to ask you why
Why deny it
It's no surprise
I've got to survive

Freedom shines the light ahead
I'll lead the last charge to bed
I said my last rights
I don't have to run scared no more

Fight
I wanna fight
I wanna fight a revolution
Tonight
I wanna fight
I wanna fight a revolution
Tonight
At the light
At the light
Do you wanna watch me die

Let me be something good
Let me prove something real like I should
Let me embrace every single living thing
Let me be every single moment I ever misunderstood

And then they just released "Tarantula" as a single.
An ordinary relationship war with a Paris Hilton lifestyle bunny on the cover.

"Tarantula"

I don't want to fight
Every single night
Everything I want is in your eyes
You and me go back
To places I don't know to care
The spoils of all I got were left for scraps

Don't let me say this
But you're no worse than me
It's crazy

We are the real
If real ever was
And just because
We are the real
They feel we have enough
We are the real
'Cause someone gave us up

I want to be there when you're happy
I want to love you when you're sad
Can't stand the morning rain?
Get out I'll take your place then
Can't stand the blazing sun?
Then close your eyes you'll see
The angel dust

I don't want to be
Anything believed
A million watts of sound can't compare
Come along you'll see the world
The pulse ripples, the crowd unfurls
The current starts to flow and then you're on
Oh it's white hot soul they want
To sing for

We are the real
If real ever was
And just because
We are the ruin
Of every living soul
We are surreal
Cause someone gave us up

Don't break the oath
I want to love you when you're happy
Don't break this oath
I want to be there when you're sad
Freeze-frame the pouring rain

We are the real
As real as any ghost
So easy now
We are the real
In ever living soul
Oh don't they know?

Can't stand the blazing sun?
Can't stand the morning rain?
Oh get out I'll take your place again

I don't want to be alone
I don't want to be alone
I don't want to be alone at all
If it's a white hot soul they want
Then a black heart they'll get

Ya know when United States came out, I thought it was a cool and clever way of saying fuck you to the Bush administration and right wing militarization but now that big belly Bobo is an Alex Jones nut now, I don’t know what the song even means anymore

A song like Freak USA does a better job of painting Billy's political opinion.

Of course. He's always been. Which is why it's funny when the mainstream media always refer to him as "right-wing".

I'd like it along with a fair number of tracks on the album if it didn't sound like it was recorded deep inside a tiny corner of a giant fucking tin can.

And take out about 50% of the vocals. "cuz I want you bad" is bad enough but the added "uh, uh, uh" is just unnecessary and unfair to the listener.

I just discovered this video from the Zeitgeist release party/show.
Were any netphorians there? Did you hold up signs?
