Default Just saw Goo Goo dolls live a couple weeks ago

Great band to check out live. A lot of their songs come off a lot better in a live setting.

The 2nd song they busted into was this:

Was fucking sweet

Goo Goo Dolls are the Bon Jovi of alternative rock. And this is coming from someone who actually used to like them.

Yeah that's understandable. I wouldn't bother to check em out if it was at some Arena.

I saw em at the Hard Rock casino. It's a super small little venue, and theres a little floor area like 5 rows deep right in front of the stage that you can walk right up to.

They're not a band I'm super into or anything though. The only album I've even owned by them was A boy named goo. I had the night off and was doing a little gambling and heard they were gonna be playing. I won 500$ on a slot machine so I figured I'd check it out. Turns out a few friends were there too.

It was really a good show and a lot of fun. I wasn't sure what to expect because I saw a few performances by them on tv a couple years back where Reznick couldn't hit any of the notes but he sounded spot on. I'd recommend checking em out if they ever come to town again.

They're definitely a pop band. But come on, Bon Jovi? I get that Rezneck is of the "heartthrob" type (I've never been to a show in my life with so many gorgeous women in attendance) but they actually have a nice, textured soulful sound live. It isn't some kind of "you give love a bad name!" crap.

What's so bad about the Goo Goo Dolls? I realize they're not a "cool" band to be into but they definitely feature some good song writing. We're all adults here.

Of all the bands similar to Goo Goo Dolls (Vertical Horizon, Matchbox Twenty, Third Eye Blind, Tonic) I think the only ones I can tolerate are probably Tonic.

goo goo dolls are just a mediocre pop band with a ton of crap out, but they do have some pretty good, classic songs. They're like Paul Westerberg lite lite. I can't not enjoy it when I hear Name or Black Balloon though. I guess when I grow up I will understand that I need to not do socially unhip things like enjoy 90s pop music

I hear ya man. I really like those 2 tracks too. Don't get me wrong, the only full album I've ever listened to by them is a Boy named goo (which I think is a really solid album). I'm not a huge fan, but they have enough good songs to put on a good show. Some of their newer tracks are pretty good too: Let love in, Broadway. I was kinda drunk at the show, but it greatly surpassed all of my expectations.

I just get surprised by a lot of peoples reaction to the band. I told a few buddies that I checked out the show and they were all "hahaha What?!? You actually saw the GOO GOO DOLLS!?!"

ohmahgod let me tell you bout this edgy idea i've had, the hard rock music in the 90s was actually POP because it was POPULAR, isn't that wild? I bet you wish you had thought of that. oh, that is literally not related to what you were saying in any way? don't care, now you know how edgy and hip I am.

but you're right, pearl jam and soundgarden aren't really pop

and bill wrote really great pop songs but didn't exclusively do pop

nirvana is dirty, nasty pop. like his idols before him
