But hey, you never know, my feeling is there's gotta b something 2 it I'm just not getting, so I'll circle back and give em another chance in a few yrs. Certain shit hits u mad different at different shitstages of life.

For example I never really got Springsteen (other than Dancing In the Dark, Hungry Heart, Born2run, obvs) but put on a cheap used copy of Tunnel of Love recently and lost my shit: in both lyrics and sound, it fits/describes/enhances my understanding of where I'm at in life and I can't get enough of it

And now I'm a huge Springsteen fan, I guess
anybody with real respect for music has to admit that The Boss is a genius musician.

saying that the American Hardcore scene produced a lot of mediocre bands is missing the point. it was a reaction against establishment authority, which included the trappings of professional musicianship and the entire music industry. It was as much a spontaneous political statement as it was DIY entertainment. That's all it was. it was very much the opposite of what most post punk bands were doing or meant to do.

apples and oranges

This is true of every wave of punk

DIY/small indie labels were very important to the majority of post punk

I'm talking musically post punk takes more rules off the table while hardcore starts adding them

its not like The Germs cranked up to 11 isn't one of the best things in music just most the cliches people joke about are mainly relevant to hardcore

I've been watching Stranger Things and Should I Stay or Should I Go or WHATEVER the fuck that song is called is a motif. I hardly know the Clash's music so this is not a judgement on them overall, but that is honestly one of the most obnoxious songs I can think of, ever, in popular music.

back before I was really at the point where I could learn a song with chords all the way through, I used to hit nonsense way up high on the neck and pretend I was doing the solo to november rain

I think my first song was Basket Case. There's not even a solo to pretend to play.

I've never learned a real solo all the way through playing that way is excruciatingly boring

I only like to play stuff where I can easily pick it up by ear

Otherwise I'll just play my own stuff
