I'm going to on the record here and say that Slipknot were far and away the best nu-metal band. Also I really enjoyed the first Spineshank album on Roadrunner. They did a better job than most bands of the era of working the industrial stuff into their tunes, and had just a dash of late-90s mosh pit hardcore in their style.

Fun story: last time I was in Sydney I went out for breakfast and that dude with his shirt off was my waiter.

I can't remember what I ate. He grew his hair back so it was hard to tell that it was him but I recognised the tatts. I was with a friend who is also a longtime hesher and before we left we did a google image search to check, and sure enough it was him. We didn't say anything to him about it though. He seemed like a nice dude but he was skinny in a way that meant either eating disorder or drug problem.

this makes the other bands look kinda weak..and it's not even soo great, except the Orph EP. Although, the drumming and tempo changes are great

Behind the music voice:

"Then tragedy struck, years of squatting with his ass a foot off the stage while playing bass caused a condition doctors call nu-metal knee."

This thread is hilarious, thanks

Shit, I had to listen to Staind cry about his dad or something like all the way across the USA one summer, had a coworker that felt they were excellent. I made him listen to Songs for the Deaf in rebuttal. He hated it, called it boring.

Those are the only 2 albums I've heard though, but I think they encapsulate the Nu-Metal sound pretty accurately.

I haven't bothered with anything after that though, so I don't doubt that they matured with their sound or whatever.

Even so, I love House in the change of flies. That's a great song.

I don't think of Godsmack as nu-metal at all. Same with Stained, and Disturbed although I don't know much Disturbed.

There is a very clear look and sound that is nu-metal.
