My musical tastes are awesome. I bet if you just ran into me at a bar somewhere you'd be like man! you have great tastes! We both enjoy a lot of the cornerstone bands that "casual fans" aren't clued into

It's the kind of song where theres not a lot going on. It's produced in the same vain as hit songs like My humps, blurred lines ETC. gimmicky drum machine, sparse bass riffs ETC.

Royals reminds me of How Soon is Now it being this club song with anti-club lyrics

I've been spinning pure heroine all this week

Royals is just a weak excuse for a pop-song... Sounds stale and subdued.

This track has nearly the exact same production qualities and absolutely wipes the floor with Royals

Yes trotsky, I shared a video. But it's important for making my point, as this song came out nearly 10 years ago. So it's likely Elphys never heard it.

It just goes to show how stale that Lorde sound is. Fergie was doing it 10 years ago a lot more fresher and better.

Yeah it was such a bad pop song that it only made a untraditional looking white girl from New Zealand number 1 on the charts for over a month

lol yeah, cause the "charts" are a good way of judging the quality of a piece of music.

There Fergie was, doing nearly the same sound 10 years ago. The only small noticeable difference is that Lorde takes a more soulful approach. It's still nearly the same shit though.

Rehashed garbage

They are in this case. Lorde absolutely is alternative and if it wasn't for Royals not something most people would be exposed to

She's nothing different than your everyday popstar. Extremely good looking, decent enough voice, gimmicky song = big time chart success

Fuzzy makes straight faced references to "casual fans" and uses a Fergie song as evidence to build a case against a song about the class system and the emptiness of materialism written by a 16 year old girl.

If he were a bot and not actually a phenomenal idiot, its shit like this that would be at the deepest point of the uncanny valley.

It's even funnier that he thinks I've never heard Fergie

Fuzzy has no political or social awarness whatsoever so of course he doesn't understand the signifigance of the lyrics here

Oh gimme a break guys, now you're really fucking reaching on this topic. Sure Royals is catchy enough for what it is, but don't try and pull the wool over my eyes and act as if it's some socially-brilliant track.

It's your everyday brain-dead "Anti-bling" kind of track. It's been done to death and isn't socially aware at all

well you would have been like 10 when that track dropped. A lot of 10 year olds don't keep up with music

Yeah, Elphy, I'm sure you'd love a socially aware song like this as well? Exact same message as Lordes track

generic, old, stale "lets make fun of the of all the rich people cliches" song...

"Fuzzy doesn't get the SOCIAL AWARENESS"

Explain that one to me, professor.

Lordes Royals is on the same tier as Good Charlotte Lifestyles of the rich and the famous, and you guys act as if it's fucking high-art or something.

How does one measure social brilliance? Is the scale based on a constant like a Fergie song?

I just don't get why you guys would make fun of groups like Bush, STP, Rage, Green Day, Weezer who all have some really great songs... Yet you're the first to jump aboard the Lorde bandwagon.

It's like I've entered some sort of bizarro world

Well you are a lot smarter than us, perhaps you could explain to us, in terms of Fergies and brilliance, what makes something high art?

I think that a lot of SP fans just try to get into all the new, current, trendy music in attempt to feel current and "with the times" because they're in denial of being some sort of obsolete dinosaur... and because of that fear they'll go on and praise whomever is the "current" pop-star.

Does a musical artist have to have some really great songs to be considered high-art?
