"You look like you have a job" just became both the most ineffective and somehow funniest insult I'm going to regularly steal
it makes no sense but I'm using it |

The synth thing was just really funny, the kind of thing I would do if I was an old fuckoff rock star. I think the nadir was the owata song and video. Imagine if you could show that to yourself back at peak pumpkins fandom, you'd throw up and renounce the band instantly.

no way, oceania's not the greatest album but the fact that they brought back x.y.u. in its full, original-version glory was validation enough
worst pumpkins moment woulda had to be from either the anniversary tour era or teargarden (the original single-releases phase - notable moments being the fucking mormo-riffic leno performance, Christian Website, various outfits & stage comments, & owata, astral planes, a couple of other tracks maybe, JIMMY QUITTING) there were notably good moments from both of those eras tho, namely the pre-byrne shows & that 2010 thing in the park or wherever where they played that version of soot & stars, tristessa, etc. |

The 2010 Record Store Day performance may be the highlight of the band after Jimmy quitting. It was certainly the highlight of the Byrne era. It was so good it actually made up for the awful performance on Leno.
Off the top of my head, some pretty bad moments have been... -All of the temper tantrums were pretty awful during the 20th Anniversary were bad, but "take your dick out my ass and put it in my mouth" was particularly noteworthy. -2010 Rolling Stone interview with Billy (where he called Jimmy a "destructive human being," said he fired him, and said he should ride around in a white van). -Continuing feud (is it a feud if it is one-sided) with Stephen Malkmus. -Music video for "Owata." -That streamed interview Billy was doing in 2010 where he got pissy about some inane comment a fan made (which Billy perceived as a slight) and stormed off. -Devi-Evergate Also, not quite related but Monte-isms hit a peak somewhere in 2011-2012. "Don't you know who I am?" "It's a noone story!" |

The only thing good about the record store day performance was that Billy showed that he could actually sing with a snarl still... Fans were thrilled to hear the old vocals back- but of course he ditched em again in no time.

Mike Burns sounded good too. He restrained himself on the fills, played a good Tristessa (that tom part at the beginning is right up his alley), and wrote a cool part for Soot and Stars
Why did it all go so wrong |

actually I was happy when he left again. it was pretty obvious on the tour he didn't enjoy it much, and whatever chemistry between the bellster and JC was gone.
