1, 2 and 3 are enjoyable. 4 is a little too stupid. Lep in Tha Hood is a stone-cold classic, never saw Back to Tha Hood or that remake/Origins whatever the fuck it was.

Thinks it's Oscar-caliber? I hear a lot of people think so.

The Samurai Champloo soundtrack has to be some of the best music I've heard.

too bad it hasn't come out in India. I'm super excited to watch it. I hear even Dave Franco was pretty good.

Saw the trailer for Ready Player One. Looked cool and all but I'm bracing for the inevitable reviews of the movie that say it's nothing but a two-hour long commercial for all these various intellectual properties mixed with a huge dose of LSD...while completely missing the point of the source material. It'll happen when the movie is released, mark my words.

I mean, if this isn't the point of the source material, do you care to explain what the point is for someone who has never read the book and looks at teasers for this film as some overgrown manchild's fantasy of mashing his favorite action figures together?

Huxley once said that mankind has an almost infinite appetite for distractions. The source material, in part, is a commentary about said distractions and how they consume you when you consume them.

Ready Player One is, in short, both a celebration of and an indictment of our obsession with pop culture. If that doesn't sound like your cup of tea, then don't read the book or see the movie.

But it's a lot of people's jobs on the internet to put themselves through a movie they'd never watch just to show contempt and belittle others for enjoying something they themselves never would.
And then there's the people who don't watch shit and still do that.

Humanity truly is capable of amazing things.

Yeah, I kind of reached this conclusion long ago. But was curious if there was an angle I'm missing. I'm still skeptical but not intrigued enough to find out for myself.

I love most of Spielberg's output, but this looks absolutely, 100% not for me.

Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi - 3/5
Overall I thought it was pretty meh. Lots of out of place jokes and squandered characters. The whole rey/luke sequence goes on forever and adds up to not much by the end. Some cool action here and there tho.

Cosmic Wars: The Last Role of Carrie Fisher

Felt like it was about 15-20 minutes too long. Some set pieces dragged on too long and like Rogue One, I felt there were a few too many superfluous characters and scenes. For example, that whole casino scene just felt shoehorned in in order to give the movie a breather it didn't really need.

However, when this movie was on, it was ON LIKE DONKEY KONG. This, bar none, was Mark Hamill's best acting work as Luke Skywalker. He was completely believable as a defeated old man and the evolution of his character from the young Jedi you knew from the original trilogy is the best thing about this movie. He also has probably one of the two most badass scenes in the entire canon. I really wish they could have developed the dynamic between him and Kylo Ren a little more; as good as it was in this, I do think a little bit was left on the table. Hamill and Daisy Ridley play off each other very well. It's a pity that the parts without Hamill, Ridley and Adam Driver aren't quite up to par with their parts. Still, overall it was a solid offering, even if it was a rewrite away from greatness. At least it's not the rehash of Empire Strikes Back that I thought it would be. If Rian Johnson is guilty of anything, it's that he tried TOO hard while making this. For better or for worse, this movie is certainly not a derivative Star Wars tale.

Also, there's a cameo by a certain character that had me almost in tears, it was that flawless.

B

But they fundamentally mistunderstand Luke as a character...
and most of the new stuff that was set up in The Force Awakens was thrown out the window without a second's thought...
