Default How much do song titles affect what you think of a song, if at all?

I know it shouldn't have any effect at all, but admittedly it's a bit hard for me to get behind a song called "Try, Try, Try," "(Come On) Let's Go!" or "That's the Way (My Love Is)". Anyone feel the same way? What song titles are your least favorite?

but as for song titles; i guess i'm used to the pumpkins having dumb song titles. mellon collie and the infinite sadness. the crying tree of mercury. glass and the ghost children. the end is the beginning is the end. and so on.

I've always thought that The Smashing Pumpkins was one of the greatest band names i've ever heard. I loved it even before I was a fan.

i dunno i think most of the truly terrible names are owned by bad-to-terrible bands.
most really big bands have at least half decent names.
it's the truth

i find it hard to take in the arms of sheep seriously. the crying tree of mercury is too over-the-top, but then the song mostly sucks anyway so that's fine.

(How much do netphorian screen names affect you think of a netphorian, if at all?)

If "That's the Way" was titled "Booger" or "Cheese Omelette", and "C'mon" was titled "Jizzcouch" or something, they would be more well-liked. "I'm Ready" should be called "Uncle Elmer" or something.

i believe mistamista and i already had this discussion a few months back

song titles/band names are as important as anything else and sp's have been consistently excellent. many of you seem to consider them dumb or cheesy but for the most part they are least more interesting or fun than most other song names. would you honestly rather sp had bland generic titles like any other band? of course not.

Holy Lord, Shawshank Redemption Is Such A Good Movie i.e. is a great name for a song.

I like most SP song titles, I just hate it when it's just the first line of the chorus.

I can't believe no one has mentioned "Porcelina of the Vast Oceans" or "Medellia of the Gray Skies" yet. Not as necessarily terrible names, utterly unique- I can't think of any other band off the top of my head who has song names exactly like those. I actually think they are kinda cool, and epic sounding, although I don't know what relevance they have to the songs (moreso Porcelina).

They sound almost mythological to me... adding to the epic vibe.

The wierder the names are the better if you ask me. I don't like the blander song titles mentioned above: That's the Way, I'm Ready, All Things Change; I think I actually expect better from the band. The Pumpkins back catalogue they seemed to have titles that suit the mood to the song... Where Boys Fear..., Bodies, Tales of a Scorched, Medillia of the Gray Skies, Daphne Descends etc.

Bring on the wierd, Bill!

Have a Nice Day by Bon Jovi. What an awesome song/song name. Yeah dude. Wow.

I've always been cool with everything, except at first I thought the name "Smashing Pumpkins" was gay. That was during MCIS when they were getting super-huge at our school. Later I got Gish. Hooked fo life. /Story

The title tarantula took me some time to get used to. I kept picturing 8 little spider legs moving in rhythm to the opening...now that I think about it, the spider legs moving may look like Billys fingers when he plays the solos..all that finger work.

I'm also not a fan of the title Stand Inside Your Love

Not at all.

Look at Sigur Rós. I don't know what any of those songs titles mean (well, the ones' that have names at least!), and that doesn't hinder a thing for me.

same here, I love Sigur Ros but I have no idea what any of the tracks names are. I guess that helps with the mysteriousness of the band

i actually like not knowing what sigur ros sing about
it adds even more to their already alien-ish sound.
i think their choice to sing in scat singing (hopelandic) is the best decision they made as a band
and perhaps one of the best decisions by a band, ever
