I'm not even saying he should go back and play like the Gish days. But from Adore on the guitar intricacies and "outside the box" playing has been far and few between.

That's why I loved the Zeitgeist era because I'd see this live footage where he and Chaimberlain would go off on their little improvisational parts and thats where the magic happened.

Like the improvisational outro that busts in here at the 4:03 mark. Corgans guitar playing is so emotive. It's not that he's shredding or anything but he's really letting lose in that trademark Corgan style that he now seems to purposely avoid on the albums

And of course Jim just kills it. It's the chemistry of the 2 that just makes it work.

It's one of the reasons why I love Pomp and Circumstance, it's one of the rare times we really hear that awesome Billy guitar expression.

Yeah, it's a shame. The guy should just improvise some stuff on a record and LEAVE IT AT THAT. He's at his best when he just cuts lose and doesn't micro-manage every part of the music.

Yes, you've gone on about this many times. If you had read what I wrote, I was specifically talking about Billy's improvisational playing on that particular tour.

It's a good thing Corgan isn't thought of as a "guitar God" or whatever because that shit is stupid and usually indicative of a band lacking in songwriting

why even post this, he made it clear why he likes the era, the "music" itself wasn't really even in question

Have you noticed how d'arcy seems to disapear at the end of ava adore? She is walking behind billy (just before they get to the last area) and she seems to lose her balance and she just disapears

I always thought they lied and actually cut it right there.

ear-splitting country

im approaching them with no preconceived notions. i remember getting one or two of their cds from the library when i was in college but other than that casual introduction i really only know j mascis as an occasional drummer for mv&ee and that band is too hit or miss for me and i don't like the songs that sound too druggy. i prefer the folky kind of ballads that evolve into a killer space jam.

Come on, he has lots of parts throughout his career that show off his schizo live style. In fact, I'd say the recorded output of the band has always been very constructed with just a few little parts for his wild solos. Now, his wildest, most expressive playing is definitely on SD and MCIS - Soma, Geek USA, Fuck You, etc.

His guitar style evolved but there are so, so many great moments in the later years. He did a lot of great playing on the Sacred and Profane tour and with Zwan. Check out some of their longer jams - Spilled Milk, Mary Star of the Sea, God's Gonna Set This World on Fire, etc.

TheFutureEmbrace is an awesome guitar record - each song has only one live take of his playing. Yeah its a shoegaze, textural approach but there are a lot of unusual angles and routes he takes.

Zeitgeist has some amazing solos, some of which sound constructed (Tarantula, Bring the Light), and others which are more off-the-cuff and expressive (United States, Pomp and Circumstances). There are fewer great guitar moments in the post-Jimmy era, though his playing was in fine form in the 2011 tour. On records, it's easy to point out the "Song for a Son" solo (one of his finest ever IMO), a very nice run in the middle of "Inkless", the haunting ebow solo in "Wildflower" as well as the unhinged and wild final solo in "Oceania", which alone goes to show that 'he's still got it'

It's kind of a casual fan thing to say but I think Out There is my favorite track. I remember loving it on the Waynes World 2 CD when I was just a little kid. It was that track that made me revisit the band once I had Napster and they became one of my favorite bands since.

Yeah, I get the feeling that you're not even being sincere in your pretentiousness. You just challenge the accepted "status-quot" in hopes that you come across as original or something.

Weren't you the guy who called Chris Cornell a lousy singer? I mean come on man........

Maybe if you were bringing good, current music to the table people would be more lenient of your asinine opinions, but the only music you ever talk about are these old men dinosaur acts.

Let's get real here.
