If a song doesn't have guitars it must be dumb

Kids are so dumb not listening to Slash

Well, I guess what Billy has been trying to tell us this whole time is that he never was an innovator.
He just rode the coattails of whatever was popular at the time, and we should all just stop paying attention to his reactionary old man opinions.

That's all I'm getting from all his crazy-ass interviews

wow, i knew he'd sued for something but that? that's ridiculous - hardly similar to "snail" much less lawsuit-worthy - it's soft then loud & has an a chord?

the nudeswirl thing is hilariously similarly though, i guess he just didn't hear it

Listen to the "Shine" tease at the end of this, and what Billy had to say.

https://ia601408.us.archive.org/12/i...4-08-02t07.mp3

I also read it was "Drown".The funny thing is that when I hear the main riff and the chord progression of "Shine", IF ANYTHING, it reminds me of "Rhinoceros", not "Snail" or "Drown", at all.

Pearl Jam legal would go insane if they went after everyone who tries to sing like Eddie Vedder.

Bush would have been sued by 3 different bands at least. That would have been fun.
All kidding aside, you can't sue because of a similarity in sound.

billo's dismissal of the whole online community thing prob explains this comment a bit

i wonder if he's even aware just how many people were & are willing to check out home demos & shitty recordings of live performances just because they've played the albums & b-sides out so much

or you know, the in-depth analyses of even something like machina that was a "commercial clunker"

the way people see him over here is probably more or less what he is going for
he's important personally, for people who needed those songs, but i mean, "culturally" or whatever? it really wasn't about that, & i don't think anyone really gives a shit

i feel like he's kinda like fuzz-roro in his probable dismissal of things that people may or may not tell him in a positive light re: these kinda gripes though

like a million people could tell him their favorite smashing pumpkins song was a non-single & he would still give the speech about "nobody wants the non-peak material" what the fuuuuck

All those excuses... Its like he thinks everything he has made post 2006 is as good as the old records. Just bad luck and circumstances that its not a success... Can it be so hard to understand that it doesn't matter what type of record or audience hes aiming for. Just make a good record and it will sell! Heavy metal, disco, jazz, who cares.

It's from Billy/acoustic Live on 99X 2-17-2000.

No more than SP could have been sued on Gish for sounding like Jane's Addiction, Guns N' Roses, and the Cult.

uh well it is recognizable, even though it's not the main riff of the song. i know because i heard collective soul before i got gish, and i every time i heard that part of snail i immediately thought of shine.

it's the intro and it's clear at 0:43 here when they play it fast.

Billy ended up losing the case. The Collective Soul front man presented a demo of the song that predated Snail. The similarities were really just a coincidence.

Why didn't they try to sue Corgan then?

Collective Soul should have been collectively sued by everyone for being terrible. Crime to the ears. Of course...Creed was yet to come then. If we'd only known...

I think they did end up counter suing, I think they ended up settling out of court.
