Filaments came in today and I'm about to get mid-evil with this little beast of a gimp...gonna call up some hard mofo's with a blow torch and a pair of plyers -- and then put all that down and play guitar and shit. I'll shoot for 120db's at some point.

Indeed. Sweet Prince like set up btw, corker. nice and simple.

I can't make out all the pedals. Big Muff for sure. What looks like a PS-5, a tuner(?) and 2 of the same pedals? Those white boss's..the one on top almost looks like it say Attenuator, but nahhh...I would think delay, but I dunno. And what's the Digitech looking thing just below the power supply? It looks evil.

This thing is awesome. Lots of sweet spots and it goes from crisp 70's/80's distortion to the modern Djent style with ease. Super active pedal, loud as fuck but its a Keeley, so it holds its articulation the way a distortion pedal should, but most don't.

That all said -- and it most definitely is a vastly superior pedal to the MXR Fullbore in tone and versatility -- it doesn't come close to that Randall-amp like chug I was hoping for. That appears to belong to the Fullbore and the Fullbore alone. For me anyway, it's an unparalleled one-trick pony, but the one trick it does nothing else comes anywhere near it. I only need that super-chug palm-muting effect for a couple of spots in a couple different songs and that's it, but the MXR is a keeper because of this unique quality I found in it (with a lot of help from a PS-6).

ohhh, gear porn! *drools* is that a Moogerfooger?...dayummm, nice...and the Big Muff has the proper amount of scratches for authenticity -- plus-2 for that. I would guess that Vox pedal is an overdrive...and nice set-list; hope the drummer is on point for ya.

I'm having a hard time seeing the default scratches. Is it 11:45, 12:30, 5 (full) ?

i've always been curious about the board itself. it appears to be just a piece of some material with a gooseneck lamp screwed on, rather than a bonafide "pedalboard."

like he just found it leaning against his shed and thought "this'll do"

que? you mean the levels? I was talking bout the scuffs everywhere that make it look like an original...and maybe it is.

forgive the self-indulgence here: so I started this rig from scratch about 9 months ago (except for guitar and amp, but the cab is new). I emphasized fidelity and didn't worry about the size of a pedal. Uniqueness and versatility were main factors as well, so i went with the FBx4 w/ a 40 sec. looper as well as midi. I stayed away from clones or rehashes of older sounds or pedals. EQD is the pedal maker for such concerns.

Currently, I'm singing through the Boss DD-20 for thick vox echoes and the Echo Pro rackmount as something of a clean tone boost that adds a nice clarity. Side board runs in front of the ES-8; compressor, EQ and buffer after it.

After the gear porn, i fiddle around with the Filaments for a minute.

I've seen photos elsewhere where he physically scratched out default settings on his Muffs. Meaning he scratched on the metal where the preferred default setting should be. So when he deviates from that setting for specific songs (as evidenced by the taped settings) he has a reference for where the knobs originally go.

I recall it being similar to 11, 1, full.

ahhh, i getcha now. you can kinda end up with your own hieroglyph type of language on the thing if you get carried away.

that is the drawback to the TC electronic FBx4 delay, having to use knob controls without a numbered meter, like the DD-20; but I don't like the tones as much as the FBx4 so that's for guitar while the 20 is for vox.

I even have a couple delay settings on the neunaber exp., just to mix up guitar delay sounds from the TC now and again, but I've kind of learned the hard way that digital delay is an effect that should be with a bpm like meter. It's kind of an issue with recordings where it's necessary to be exact at times.

I'm jonesing for a picture of his B.Muff with the scratched-in settings now. I know it exists.

re: digital delay - the reason why i like the boss giga-delay is that it lets you dial in exact BPM

yesh...its a great delay, but I fell for the tones of the TC and used both on the board for a while and it was great...Giga in front, TC in the fx loop. FBx4 has a crystally quality and i think the DD-20 is the most analogue sounding digital delay on the market. it's a darker sound than the TC, for sure, even with the tone knob.

Prince's pedalboard:

Nice and simple, emphasis on function. Effects were just a utility for him, no point in getting too tweaky with things. He could afford anything for a rig but barely has a $1000 worth of pedals and basically stuck with the same set-up his entire career.

I love how clean that looks.

It's weird to think about someone like Prince setting up a pedalboard. Usually big pompous pop stars like that just kinda sing and dance around

yeah...I don't think I once ever thought of Prince, "I wonder what amp he uses?".

he did do all of that and glammed it up as much as any horny star of the 80's, but he could play the guitar like Hendrix and be as surreal as he wanted to be in that way. Its what set him apart from anyone and everyone, from girly pop to hard rock.

I love how Prince, towards the end of his career when the tide of music was completely away from straight forward rock, just went right for it in his funk fashion with the 3rd Eye girl's, each of whom had unreal chops. He grew out the fro and Jimi'd it up the rest of the way out. He and those girls were untouchable.

Still waiting for that guitar to come down. It's like he pressed the zero gravity button on it and...poof. It just disappears.
