I hate Billy's vibrato as much as anyone but I honestly didn't notice any, or at least find it distracting, in this

calling out a song for sounding like another song is pleb tier criticism, there's only so many keys and chord progressions possible, everything under the sun has already been done before.
and how can heavy vibrato be considered awful? It's rooted in classical music and a component of heavy rock and metal as well. |

he's been doing that drawn out descending vocal line for a while now too, listen to Age of Innocence, or the alt version of Speed Kills, this just feels like a progression of it

Based on the song, but mostly because of the singing, this could be the first Corgan-related album I stay well clear of.
Has there ever been an interview / question where he's been asked about his singing style? He's used that vibrato since Zwan and it's only gotten worse. |

Here's a great summary of the new single from Spin..
“Aeronaut,” the first single from the album, is a percussion-less, orchestral ballad driven by Corgan’s bright, clunky piano. The lyrics are a meandering poem about space, mourning, meadows, ether, the air being alive, and stuff. http://www.spin.com/2017/08/billy-co..._medium=button |

i like the song, the direction, etc
but ... vocals ... lovers has no one in Bill's inner circle ever told him: Look bro, the vibrato sucks and when you sing lover all the time its creepy ........... anyone he respects ever told him that? ...... Rick Rubin wasn't up to the task? |

Aeronaut sounds exactly like Amsterdam by Coldplay.
But hey they ripped off Hummer on one of their new songs so yeah. |

Seriously why so much vibrato hate?! It's fine... When he sings it live he probably will just sing the notes normal as he doesn't have such time and not possible to be as delicate.

Song for Judy is a song that comes to mind after listening to Aeronaut. Sadly Song for Judy is way better, even though I liked Aeronaut.

This is like standing up from the toilet, admiring a big, long turd you just cut and then realizing you're staring at shit and you immediately flush in a wave of shame.

yeah the problem with this one resides almost entirely with the vocal delivery
song's fine, maybe a couple lyric changes but who cares when he's breaking up the words like that anyway and sure, a line of percussion or two wouldn't hurt. that's the problem with most '07 & onward Corgan work though, isn't it. it's almost all "could've been great" rather than "is great" and Aeronaut's an easy inclusion to the former |

I've listened to this a few times now and the only things I can honestly recall sonically about the song is the bad vocal and cheap sounding keyboard that was used on it.
Bad vocal, nonsensical lyrics and a title that has nothing to do with the song in any way, shape or form... yup, business as usual in camp Billy. |

the vocals are really the only thing keeping me from truly "embracing" this one
when listening the second time, i pictured the vocal coming from a Mellon Collie -era BC delivery and it sounded so good in my head. i maintain that his songwriting hasn't suffered all that much over the years its just the arbitrary "techniques" he continues to insist on throwing in that fuck it all up oh and the titles are kinda dumb but what are you gonna do |

yeah corgan's got his own brand of "post-peak" disappointment
i don't think there's a single other band or artist i've been a fan of that's gotten so far from their past achievements as "C-dawg" has even Brian Wilson came back to deliver some pretty sweet releases in the past couple of decades i guess the main difference there is that Brian just lost his mind, not his soul |
