don't get turned off by the first minute or so - it gets better.
Yikes.

That was shaping up to be a pretty nice version for the first little bit. Who the fuck says "Medellia of the Grey Skies" is a great song, lets crank up the volume and rock it out"? I'm all for putting your own stamp on cover versions, but man, this version just went against everything good about the original. I'd almost rather take something as horribly sung as the covers that started this thread.

haha, i think quite the opposite. The beginning - it's pretty clear the chick doesn't have the right voice or singing style for the original, all those stupid nuances 'n-a-ai-ight' and so on. In my opinion they save it by the later stuff, it suits them way more and it is fun. And come on, they don't 'rock it out' that much .

I mean when you see so many horrible covers all around, it's pretty clear how it is difficult to make it sound 'exactly like pumpkins'. So why not take a different approach and make it sound different?

would you rather applaud someone who puts in a bit of effort and thought and transforms the song, or someone who just plays it just like the original (what in case of pumpkins looks like he'd fail terribly, anyways?)

Depends on what they transform the song into. I'm all for people making the songs their own. The best SP covers I remember hearing are ones that sound little like the originals, but at least keep their spirit. At the same time, most of the worst SP covers I've heard are ones where people try to do something different with the song and just completely miss the mark. Transforming Medellia into a uptempo pop-rock song falls more into the latter category for me.
