It's not living in the past. I'm saying that if the original band reunited there is no need for Jeff to be involved. They don't need three guitars. They got by fine with just Billy and James.

yeah but what kind of argument is that? Three guitars was something Billy and James had discussed around the MCIS era anyway. It would allow them to do more with the guitar sound in a live environment than ever before and allow them to bring out depth and texture previously only heard in studio recordings

if your issue was that jeff sounds bad I would get it at least, but despite what you say, your argument seems based around the purity of the four originals

We could always fire Corgan if we want the band to have just two guitarists.

This would clearly be the wisest decision by far.

Jeff is great and very versatile. His problem: he didn't start the band.

I just saw an interview with Billy where he mentions next year the band will turn 30. He sounds unsure about the future of the pumpkins, but mentioning the anniversary (mainly when 87 was just the year he met James, and I would assume the Pumpkins started in 88) makes me think he's some plans for a 30th anniversary tour and then to finish the band, more or less like Guns'n'Roses? A full reunion, or at least some kind of Smashing Pumpkins & Friends tour, with special guests like Melissa, Garson, Matt Walker, Ginger, Lisa, Kenny...

The original four started playing together in 88 but I think "Smashing Pumpkins" began earlier with James and Billy and Ron what's his name.

I'm not sure Billy actually has the huevos to drop the SP moniker. He tends to just double down on his fuck ups over and over to save face.

Yes but he is more and more involved with all his other projects, like TNA and ZUZU and his son.

Never say never, but I think that scenario is a big stretch. It would require him to make peace with the fact that he resurrected HIS BAND HIS DREAMS and people just weren't interested and the whole operation alienated a lot of longtime fans. Everything he does seems to be desperately trying to prove that SP can be something meaningful again, and as each project fails to reignite the old fire, he wildly jumps to a different approach. He's made comments about maybe breaking up the new SP at least several times since Jimmy jumped ship in 08... I think it's all for show. He's just putting on different performances trying to get something to stick with people.

Listened to Zeitgeist 16 times, and Oceania 9 times, which is 25 combined. But I've listened to the Gravity Demos 45 times.

SP + Friends tour would be fun, but it's kinda what In Plainsong has been already...

I put my Oceania LP on the other day, while painting in my house. I was surprised at how much i enjoyed it. probably more than i did 4 years ago when it was released. I blame MtaE.

I imagine we'll see James and D'arcy dropping in and playing at certain shows; particularly as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction looms near. We may get some recordings with them, but I never see them rejoining the band full time. Unlike Jimmy, who seems to be able to reconcile with Billy, I think the same problems that drove D'arcy and James away from Billy in the first place would resurface.

Yes, it does make for some rather unoffensive, light background listening.

The plainsong ideas cool and all, but I don't understand why they can't take the same kinda format without going the acoustic route. I mean we have JC involved, just imagine hearing songs like Jesus I with the electric guitars. Would be way better.

mature, acoustic bill >>>>>>>>> "still got it"

Did u even go to a plainsong, Fuzz? b/c they DID use electric guitars on certain songs, and Jimmy played with sticks whenever he was onstage.

I'm telling u it was fucken great. It was like everything good about classic bill music, all the myriad textures all in one show
