Albums you like that seem generally abhorred by everyone...

I like this album because it doesn't really sound like anything else. It has a strange mix of pop and semi-grunge like riffs. It doesn't really have a focused direction, except the abandonment (for the most part) of what made this band sound like a crap rip-off. I have always enjoyed the album, between the catchy riffs and quite variated songs it just seems like a good effort to me. Now your turn.

I get the feeling that this thread probably won't take off, oh well.

i don't know what it is about Ys that makes me want to stab someone, but it does. its not that i don't like her, milk eyed mender i enjoyed.

I haven't heard this but I have heard a few songs of hers and I think she sounds quite interesting. Anyway I thought plenty of people liked this around here?

I don't really know why I mentioned "here" when the context of the thread is general. I guess it's just I have heard more good than bad about it, not that anyone I know talks about her.

I guess not everybody hates it but it usually ranks pretty low with most R.E.M. fans. Yeah, it gets really cheesy in some places but even those songs I like.

I think in general most people would say this album is just throwaway new metal junk (and do in a few reviews i read). It might be a bit of nostalgia, but I think this album has a great drug/rebellion/angst/dissonant/apathetic mix going, and it does sound different (Powerman 5000 and AIC are a little comparable).
