And MbD's later albums were a lot different, maybe that's why. Even his voice changed (or they swapped singers, I don't know).

ok here is track list (my theme was girls, girls, girls)
1) siouxsie and the banshees - kiss them for me: chose this song as an opener to set the mood for the mix (my theme was chicks, and I was going to put in some throw back songs since I primarily listen to 80s and 90s) plus I love this song. 2) sneaker pimps - 6 underground: choose this song as a follow up because I thought both kiss them for me and this song shared a basic slow dancey grove that you can nod your head to. plus this chicks voice is hot. 3) janet jackson - thats the way love goes: really thought this song would flow well after 6 underground because this is a totally head bobbing song with a great beat. plus, while it is a few years before 6 underground, it's still in the same general time period and i thought of it while putting the mix together. also the song is pretty hot, and the video was hot also (from what i remember, janet was looking damn good) 4) missy elliott - the rain (Supa Dupa Fly): chose this song because, while i generally only listen to rockish stuff, i wanted to throw in a good mix, so that is why i threw in janet and figured this song was a good follow up since they are both generally hip hoppy and this is another song with a slow head bob to it 5) the sundays - wild horses: so at this point i was changing the mix up from dancey stuff, figured a good acoustic cover song was a good transition, plus i hate the rolling stones, but this cover is awesome. very pretty voice, love love love the chorus. 6) norah jones - don't know why: probably my favorite female vocalist (or tied with mazzy star (hope sandoval) since I had changed the mix from hip hoppy to acoustic i threw this little ditty (while not acoustic) it has a good jazzy feel, and i really thought that her basic melodies and amazing vocal prowess complimented the great chorus from the prior song. 7) the bangles - if she knew what she wants: similarly to siousxie and the banshees, another throw back but with a completely different feel. more poppy than any of the other songs on the mix, threw this in because i didn't want it to be too too girly girly girly (with the sundays and norah jones before) and this is a fun song, plus the vocals are similar to two other artists coming up in the mix (stevie knicks and courtney love) 8) hole - awful: as i alluded to before, i thought the vocals and melodies from the bangles complimented courtney love - i really like the melody of this song and didn't want to put in a usual hole song. 9) Eisley - Mr. Pine: I first got turned onto these girls when i saw their music video on a local music station here in ATX, they are from tyler texas, anyway they were hot and then as soon as they began to sing my heart was won. their vocal harmonies are disgustingly amazing, and their subject matter (faries and ice castles and shit like that) is just too cute and magical. I can listen to these girls anytime of the day. 10) Blondie - Dreaming: throw back again, and you can probably guess why i chose this song.. alot of pumpkins fans don't know the original and its pretty good. 11) Cranberries - linger: the first song that introduced me to the cranberries, while i am not a very big fan besides their singles, I think it has a similar feel to the sundays and it has a great melody 12) fleetwood mac - gold dust woman - stevie knicks is just fucking awesome. i also had hole on the mind, which made me think of this song right away. 13) the cardigans - iron man: love this band, very unique vocals, great take on sabbath... it's just so out there lol. 14) mazzy star - blue light: tied for my favorite female vocalist with norah jones, decided on a non single and decided to slow down the mix from the wacky iron man cover prior. 15) allison kraus - down to the river to pray - my 2nd favorite female vocalist, great little ditty from the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack. 16) Paz - desert plains: i really dig this cover 17) susana vega - 99.9: ended the mix with a song that always gets stuck in everyones head, yes i know a very mean thing to do... but what can i say, im devilish so there ya go.... here is the link http://www.sendspace.com/file/vuktsh |

argh my guy left the m3u tags. i'll try not to look
1. i did see that this track was by david byrne and brian eno. a nice mid tempo piece. it stomps. that guitar solo sounds like the solos billy played on TFE, a good thing. i'll probably look into whatever album this is on. 2. a slightly eclectic combination of timbres. i like the swirling trombones. then guitars. then strings. now harps and glockenspiels. and the result is a vivid soundscape. i definitely want more of this 3. i can honestly say i wasn't expecting this. i'm a sucker for harmonies like in the end there 4. i feel i should know who this is. a comfortable little jam. 5. good sounds on here. i dig the atonal ambient stuff 6. quality vocals. 7. i accidentally saw "a sunny day in glasgow" as the name of this band and it's a very appropriate name. i'd like to hear the song that comes after it on the record, with it being an obvious segue. 8. this songs very "earthy". and that guitar came out of nowhere. the drums on this tune are great. 9. a nice change of pace. minimal yet distinct instrumentation. rich voicing on the harmonies. 10. is this the moody blues or something. jk. first spine tingle of the mix. wait this is the flaming lips isnt it. alright. cool. those guys never fail at impressing me or getting my admiration. i was interrupted i'll finish this review tomorrow. |

11. wait. this is the track that comes after the track that prompted me to say "i'd like to hear the song that come's after it on the record". cool.
12. i don't like the choirboy type voice of the singer. it took me a second to realize that this is a cover. the instrumentation sounds stiff. or like it was recorded in midi at the same velocity throughout. 13. is this another brian eno track? either way, i like it a lot. real slow like. 14. great pace. almost comical and sarcastic in its tone. |

TRACK OL - "I Feel My Stuff" by Brian Eno and David Byrne [Vocals] from Everything that Happens will Happen Today [2008] TRACK O2 - "Falling Horses" by Efterklang from Under Giant Trees [2007] TRACK O3 - "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"[Cover] by Brian Eno [Single] TRACK O4 - "Lorge" by El Ten Eleven from El Ten Eleven [2004] TRACK O5 - "Soul of Carmen Miranda"by Brian Eno and John Cale [Vocals] from Words for the Dying [1989] TRACK O6 - "Owl" by Crystal Antlers from Crystal Antlers [2008] TRACK O7 - "Wake Up Pretty" by A Sunny Day in Glasgow from Scribble Mural Comic Journal [2007] TRACK O8 - "Baby's on Fire" by Brian Eno from Here Come the Warm Jets [1974] TRACK O9 - "Bottomliners" by Brian Eno from Another Day on Earth [2005] TRACK LO - "Pompeii Am Götterdämmerung" by The Flaming Lips from At War With the Mystics [2006] TRACK LL - "No. 6 Von Karman Street" by A Sunny Day in Glasgow from Scribble Mural Comic Journal [2007] TRACK L2 - "The Hollow (Constantly Consuming Mix)" [Cover] by A Perfect Circle from aMOTION [2004] TRACK L3 - "Late October" by Brian Eno and Harold Budd from The Pearl [1984] TRACK L4 - "The Road" by Cinelli [unfinished, unreleased] Thank you for giving my mix a listen. I tried to put a fair amount of Brian Eno on there to showcase some of his different styles and eras. As you can tell he went from glam to ambient to electronic, but it's all distinctly him. "Bottomliners" has been one of my favorite songs ever since Another Day on Earth was released. The other artists on here (except The Flaming Lips) are generally just things i've been listening to this year and thought would go well on this mix. "The Road" is a track by a couple of my roommates, but this particular version is fairly dated - i'm the song's biggest fan and am looking forward to them completing it. "The Hollow" I like so much that I have a hard time judging this version on its own. I agree about it sounding stiff and I wonder if Maynard + Billy and gang like it at all. |

Mix review:
Track 1 / 2 / 3: All three are very short and to be honest were over before I could really figure out exactly what I thought of them. I gave them a few more listens but other than being pretty sure there is a clip of Billy Corgan talking in the second one I am still not sure what to think. Track 4: It took me about a minute or so to figure out this song was in another language because the vocals sound sort of muddled to me. Sounds very much of the 1980s but beyond that I haven’t a clue. Track 5: This sounds a lot like track four except the vocals do not sound as muddled. Lots of weird sounds in the background which makes it a bit more interesting but not anything I’d normally listen to. Track 6: I am pretty sure this is Seal. Not bad but a bit long. By the end I was itching for it to be over. Seems like a song I would either grow to really like or really hate after repeat listening. Track 7: This track sounds more like something I would listen to but I’m not crazy about the vocalist. His voice is somewhat familiar but I can’t place it. Track 8: I’ve actually heard this song before! I am pretty sure it’s Tears For Fears. Track 9: The lyrics in this song are familiar but I do not think I have heard this version. Is this My Bloody Valentine? I never really got into them. I am too lazy to Google the lyrics but am pretty sure this is a cover. Track 10: This is four seconds long and pretty much just has a scream in it. Track 11: I like this song and have no idea who it is. Track 12: Very synth-y instrumental. I thought it ended twice when it sort of switched directions but it’s still the same track. I like it but towards the end I am sort of tired of it. Track 13: No idea. A bass heavy track definitely from the 1980s, it’s not bad. I like the background vocals but it annoys me that the lead vocals are sort of low and the robot voice or whatever the hell that is in the background. Track 14: This is definitely Depeche Mode. Another band I never really delved into but I do like this song. Track 15: A nice piano instrumental. Track 16: I have no idea who this is. He sounds British and it’s a live recording and there are people audibly singing along. I like his voice and it’s a nice little song on the piano. Track 17: Oh my God, Iced Earth? I used to work with a guy who I used to swap mix CDs every so often and I remember he put this song on one of them and I must have laughed for ten minutes straight after listening to it. Just so over the top and the vocals just kill me. I am almost positive this is the same song he put on there. Track 18: I feel like I have heard this song before but not this version. A cover maybe? Not bad, one of the better on here. Track 19: No clue. Not bad, sounds like something I would listen to but not at all familiar. Track 20: A bit melancholy and in the same vein as a lot of the stuff on here, sort of synth-y sounding and definitely from the 1980s. Not bad though, I liked it more than the earlier stuff. I can hear the vocals! Track 21: One of my favorites on here. A bit long but I enjoyed it. Again, I have no clue who this is. Track 22: Spacehog. It’s nice to know a song on here and not have to guess. I still like this song. The first time I heard the song his voice annoyed the crap out of me but after a while I really liked it. I remember the lead singer had a really ugly first name. Track 23: Ah, Prince. A bit corny sounding and not subtle in the least, I would expect nothing less. A nice, fun track to end the mix with. I would give it a 6/10 overall. Had a lot of stuff I would probably never listen to on my own, and I think sometimes this worked both for and against it. I am anxious to see who some of the artists are so I can find more about them or know to avoid them like the plague. Made for a very interesting listen. Thanks |

I had trouble with getting rid of all of that using iTunes, too. I ended up burning a CD of the mix and then importing the CD I made back into iTunes giving all the tracks generic names. It was the only thing I thought of that seemed to work.

Well, iTunes is sort of deceptive. It seems easy to erase all that stuff but somehow it always shows back up again. I tried using WinAmp and didn't like it much but then again I have only ever used iTunes.

4 - cocteau twins - pink orange red ["tiny dynamine/echoes in a shallow bay", 1985]. pretty much my fav song for the past couple years. the sound of an alternate reality. which a lot of their stuff is to me. i have little or no idea what the lyrics are on most of their songs, and that's probably one reason why i love them so much. it's never tied to one concrete meaning and can shift depending on where you're at at the time. probably my 2nd all time fav artist. my fav album by them, it was actually 2 ep's released really close together but it's really an album. 5 - cocteau twins - pale clouded white. another track from same album. decided i should've kept it to one track from this after i up'd it...couldn't help myself i guess. 6 - seal - deep water ["s/t", 1991]. i dunno, prolly wouldnt in-clude this if i were making the mix today, but i've always loved this song. i think it's progressive and meaningful. but it works better on the record as it leads into 'crazy' which is imo one of the best songs ever. 7 - tom edge (my dad) - destiny [2003, i think]. felt like in-cluding sth by him, his stuff is really varied, but i like when he writes these hopeless songs. i prolly should've put another of his on here. 8 - tears for fears - change ["the hurting", 1983]. a powerful album imo, underrated i think. 9 - wire - map ref. 41°N 93°W ["154", 1979]. yeah mbv covered this, i like the original better, though mbv are among my very fav artists. awesome lyrics. i love how he says "chorus" before the chorus, lol. 10 - me screaming fuck you [no offense ]. excerpt from a longer waste of time called "fuck you (just a-felt like sayin' it)" i rec'd in 1995. 11 - the fixx - secret separation ["walkabout", 1986]. i LOVE this fucking song. now and then this band did truly amazing stuff in between some kinda mediocre stuff. oh well. i almost put another of theirs on this, "driven out". little note: their hit "red skies" i always hear the re-recorded version they did..sometime..which is half as good as the original version which was on their first album 'shuttered room' fyi. 12 - brandon edge - the leslie machine [2008]. ehh, in hindsight i shoulda left this off i just had been spending a lot of time that day putting this track together and felt like it. it bores me too but i spent quite a bit of time on it. 13 - buggles - i love you (miss robot) ["the age of plastic", 1980]. one of my favs..love the vocoder..awesome sonic images for me with this. 14 - depeche mode - get the balance right [single, 1983]. it was either this or "shake the disease"...speaks for itself...who doesn't love DM? 15 - gary numan - down in the park (piano version) ["telekon" 1980, 90s reissue]. this is a bonus track on the reissue of his 4th album. funny that i didnt put a track with vocals but i just love this...nothing else he did sounds like this, i dont think. probably should've put sth else too. if i had it would've been "oh! didn't i say" from his first single or "face to face" a bonus track from the reissue of "dance" [1981]. i'd recommend hearing the first 5 records, and avoiding anything else unless you really love him or sth. i'm crazy so i have it all, but no one except a diehard would prolly be interested in that stuff. since the mid 90s he's been a rather boring "industrial rock" wannabe, though i do like some of those songs, one being "pressure" off his last record. aaanyway... 16 - howard jones - no one is to blame [live..i dunno when..the original version was off "dream into action", 1985]. just randomly dl'd this live version a while back, and i love it. this was a song from my childhood that meant a lot to me. basically everything's a bunch of crap but no one is to blame, so you're supposed to feel even worse, which creates this awesome effect, yo. 17 - judas priest - the ripper ["sad wings of destiny" 1976]. man, if all metal was this great i'd be a total metalhead. the vocals are just masterful to the extreme, much more effective than the growling junk of a lot of bands nowadays. the man had a gift, truly. never turn your back on the RIPPAAAAAAAAAH. btw that album title sounds really corganesque, he's certainly listened to this record a few times. 18 - the nerves - hanging on the telephone ["s/t ep", 1976]. this is the original version..blondie had a hit with it but their version sucks. this band shouldn't have broken up after releasing one ep, seriously. bad idea guys. 19 - dada - dim ["puzzle", 1992]. can't this car go any faster. cause i can still see where i am. YOU SHOULDA TOLD ME the trouble i was in, before my life went diiiiiiiim. love this record. i never did look into their others fsr. 20 - OMD (orchestral manoeuvres in the dark) - souvenir ["architecture and morality", 1981]. they did some great stuff on their first 3 records and some good stuff throughout their career. i can listen to omd for days. 21 - the church - two places at once ["sometime anywhere", 1994]. i went through a phase this year for a couple months where they were all i listened to. i'd recommend the album starfish, but move "under the milky way" to be right after "spark" and not as the 2nd track. album's much better this way. this song here is really cool, and yeah, slightly long but i love it. beautiful. 22 - spacehog - in the meantime ["resident alien" 1995]. a classic. nuff said. i was done with the mix then noticed this and just had to. and that put it over 80 mins. 23 - prince - jack u off ["controversy" 1981]. so i just said fuck it. this song is hilarious in several different ways. you've got to admire prince for not giving a fuck what ppl would say about sth like this. weird and shameless, how it should be. download it if ya want, links still good as of this post: http://www.sendspace.com/file/nmoqzv thanks for listening, look forward to hearing mine, yo. |
