Though put me down as voting "not a remix, just a different song."

a lot of hip hop "remixes" are just new artists hopping in on a pre-existing song, & with electronic music a lot of producers use it as a sort of vehicle to squeeze in their own productions (or in the case of someone like Aphex Twin on most of 26 Mixes for Cash, essentially decimate the song intentionally, with very little audible use of the source material)

so yeah, it's a term that's been stretched a bit considering it can also just mean the same exact tracks in the same exact arrangement simply mixed (eq'd, compressed, levelled, etc) differently but even w/ all these standards, Back to School =/= Pink Maggit remix

now here's my ranking of all their albums

White Pony
Koi No Yokan
Diamond Eyes
Around the Fur
Self-Titled
Saturday Night Wrist
Gore
Adrenaline

i normally have DE at the top, with it & KNY being pretty neck & neck, but it's just a Pony kind of day!

A pretty common one in most circles, actually. Seems folks have come around on SNW since its release. Should be interesting to see if Gore fares any better in the coming years. I like it, but it's easily their weakest album. Which is fine. Every band gets one get out of jail free card, and Gore isn't even bad.

if Gore like, sounded better it'd probably beat that one out - SNW has a lot of "chuff" in the middle but it also has 2 or 3 of my fav Deftones tracks ever

I don't hate any Deftones album, but like Gore, I find the songwriting to be lacking, the songs smear together and the riffs just don't make me errect like usual 'tones. But Deftones are like pizza. Even bad Deftones is good Deftones.

This is violence and I cannot accept it.

But to your point they are all very good.

I think my opinion of SNW is partially colored by the band’s opinion of it as their worst.

I guess I should do this rather than just judging other people’s

White Pony/Koi No Yokan

Oh god past this it gets very hard

Around the Fur
Diamond Eyes
Deftones/Gore
SNW
Adrenaline (it’s good but feels more like an overall mood than a collection of songs if that makes sense)

I’d actually probably give the nod to Gore over self titled but self titled soundtracked a lot of high school so it feels special

I haven't listened to Back to School since I saw it on mtv so I'll take you guises opinions about it but it felt like a remix

imho it's not a remix if they re-recorded it

It's definitely aging extremely well. I borderline hated it when it first came out for not being White Pony, but now it sits pretty high in my ranking (suck it nerds!).

s/t's cool, doesn't really have as much of an identity as their other albums though. almost feels like an outtakes comp to me at times, tho a very good one
