Default Why was Oceania delayed?

If the band finished the album and mixed it already, why are they waiting until next year to release it? Anyone know?

I think the real question here is, DOES ANYONE ACTUALLY CARE?

The answer is no.

You should write B0lly a strongly worded facebook message demanding a detailed explanation.

Somewhere recently Billy said that early feedback from people he played the album to encouraged him to wait and choose the best distribution method. In the same breath was the overall concept that because people enjoyed the album as much as they did, he didn't want to rush to just get it out there... which is what happened with Zeitgeist as per him.

So people really enjoyed it on first listen, and instead of putting something out there that has the potential to be successful, they're sitting on it for several months? That doesn't make sense. I sincerely hope the release doesn't take the form of anything remotely similar to Zeitgeist...no Best Buy special editions, or a re-release with bonus tracks several months after the initial release. Bad form!

He's always asking for us to be positive about his new material, and many actually are this time around. Why is he rewarding this behavior with a delay???

look on the bright side, maybe billy has become OCD again and invested more into the music

because since billy is free from evil corporate record labels he is now forced to peddle his wares in the market of corporate distribution so now it's up to the product to decide when the album gets released.

Oceania brought to you by Cheer Detergent.

which - for those of you who remember nothing - was the cause of the delays with teargarden tracks.

SUPPOSEDLY

He said a lot of people within the industry really liked the record. So the delay gives him proper time to go back to the album after the tour and fuck it up.

has been saying since summer that it would have an official physical release in early 2012 and some kind of preview or stream-online by end of year 2011.

nothing has changed in the past 3 months.

People have been reacting positively.

In Billy's mind, they will react even more positively if he ads synth overdubs to every song.

Its delayed for synth over dubs.

End

I fully expect another shitgeist distribution with 10 different versions.
the delay is to secure those releases... it's not fans that buy albums anymore, it's Wallmarts and bestBuys that buy em by the skids to use as cheap promotion to get you to visit their store....
for realz.

The same people who are pissing and moaning about the delay are the same ones who claim they don't give a shit about SP anymore.

Who would buy it next year if it's streaming for free in 2 weeks?

and, is it going to be streaming only? As in no downloads? TG was supposed to be free downloads of 44 songs, no email no strings.

just a side thought - given how well billy reacts to criticism, do we really think anyone around him would be anything other than positive about his new output?

well that model isn't working obviously, seeing as no one gives two fucks about sp or their new songs. so it's prob time to change things.

but surely not just streaming? surely it'll be made available digitally at the same time - free or otherwise. i find it retarded when bands stream their albums for any more than a week before the album is actually made available. people will just rip the stream, upload onto torrents and the majority of people will end up with a shit quality inferior product shaping their perceptions of the album.

Jesus Christ. The model is fucking fine. I'm pretty sure giving away something for free online is a proven model. The music was utter shit. If the music was quality the songs would be downloaded by millions.

so you think drip feeding songs one at a time at inconsistent intervals is better than taking the time to work on (hopefully) a coherent body of work, before releasing it for free on the internet?

even if the songs weren't of fucking shite quality - the media would still get sick of the process after the first few tracks, and the project would fall into obscurity

I really doubt that we are going to hear any studio tracks in 2011.

Maybe a "radio single" but I highly doubt it at this point.
