Default ISO the mellon collie era show where billy's guitar dies and james has to play a

few songs unaccompanied (by billy, that is). i believe one of the songs was "fuck you." not sure if there were others.

thanks for your time.

i can't really tell what the actual problem was. once upon a time sounds fine, for siyl billy's guitar sounds really soft, so you can only hear it in the verses and can't hear the loud distorted bits.

but then in between the songs you can clearly hear both james and billy playing distorted overdriven tone guitar at the same time. mellisa implies that one of his amps might have failed and so he's playing on half power, and the sound is softer than normal. but if that's the case, why not just get the sound techs to turn it up in the folds and fronts?

either that, or some of his pedals / effects stopped working, and that left him with only some of his loud overdriven sounds available and not all of them. and that the sound he uses for siyl and fuck you wasn't working, but the one for mayo apparently was.

either way there was no reason billy had to stop playing. just use a different overdriven sound than usual for a change, or get the sound techs to turn up his preferred tone to balance it out.

Cmon this is a professional Music Business performance we’re talking about here, he can’t just cut corners with the different tones, he wants 25 on 32 now, DO IT!

You can clearly hear someone yell "Shut the fuck up and play some fucking music" at the end of the technical difficulties track.

Seriously. What an asshole.

i get the feeling this was also one of those performances Bill was talking about when he said something along the lines of "if people heard some of the shit I was saying on stage 20 years ago i'd be roasted alive" or what have you

it was honestly pretty sweet, Bill really let loose with those screams

He was using the 2 Diezel VH4 amps layered together so i bet the one that stayed hot was the one i bought that he had running into an iso cab. I'd assume his stage head/volume was gone and it threw him off not having it loud behind him. The reverb sale said his main stage head had some issues and needed to be looked at. That thing looked rough. They also sold a backup one on there that looked mint. Wonder why it wasn't switched in asap in place of the bad one.

Yep, I was going back through my notes and that makes a lot of sense. Any other questions?

This really gives an indication of how intense being in Smashing Pumpkins must have been/is. SPFC is down, so I cannot verify, but I do not think that was a song they played a whole lot on that tour, and before that, it had not been played live sine 1997. Yet, with no advance warning, James plays a solo that fits the song very well, which seems to mean it had been rehearsed with both Billy and James playing guitar solos.

Love James, but he relies on a lot of "tricks" in his guitar playing (effects, wah, slide guitar, whammy pedal), so it's usually pretty obvious when he's just improvising. This sounds like a more rehearsed guitar solo. There are a handful of other shows where Billy will tell James to play a solo off the cuff, and it's usually much sloppier than this.

If you're calling pedals 'tricks' I'm scared how you feel about the '94 toy raygun in Geek and Silverfuck
