Doesn't sound like much interest in a reunion with James or even D'arcy...
I think the context is lost in this short quote. He was discussing routine stuff in the works versus new growth opportunities in 2017. A Pumpkins reunion isn't what challenges him as a musician in 2017. It isn't fair to say he's not interested.

It's also irritating that Billy Corgan in March only announced a solo acoustic tour this fall, two weeks later from David Lagana corrected to happen next year...

I'm already sure his solo record won't come out this May

Lagan(n)a's popularity in his wrestling days:

i'm not trying to put down their hard work but there's lots of failures who worked very hard & practiced a lot. people need to be more concessionary to chance but that doesn't fit into the neoliberal attitude that success in the system & society is a merit based hierarchy so jim sits atop a mountain of someone else's songwriting, collecting royalty checks, and insists its because he "practices 8 hours a day" which, uh, many people can't do because they aren't collecting a paycheck every time "Tonight, Tonight" gets played

Good post. There's a lot of battles ordinary people face each day that Jimmy doesnt really have to concern himself with.

despite any good points that might have been made, jimmy chamberlin is definitely a better musician and a better person than billy fucking corgan.

listened to the complex album yesterday for the first time in ages. it's not like a personal favourite or anything but it's just so easily on a higher level than anything billy has done in forever

i once told jimmy after a JCC gig that i preferred his band to Billy's solo effort which was then recent.

he was like which i suppose is the correct answer to that. silly me.

The thing that bugs me about the complex album is the mastering. It's far too compressed for a jazz fusion album.

I think jimmy might have mentioned the practice thing because so many people have this misconception that musicians in bands party hard and don't have to work.

Even if he focuses on music now without having to worry about paying the bills, he's only in that situation because at some stage he took the risk every aspiring musician takes, and spent years of his life practising, lugging his drums around, carrying his crap into and out of venues, setting up and packing up, hardly getting paid, not getting paid, sleeping in a van, being hungry...

I don't think anyone would deny how much luck is involved in becoming a professional musician. The odds are terrible and everyone knows that. But I think he means that he became a professional musician and remains a professional musician because he's willing to put in a lot of practice hours, not because he was born being able to drum. I don't think he meant to imply he isn't extraordinarily lucky.

oh yeah absolutely i just get tired of this inspirational speaker boilerplate that some of these guys give & wanted to make a point on it because jim has a very undefinable quality that even other excellent rock drummers don't have, so its not "only practice" there's something about your rolls for ability scores at character creation

bill's so far gone politically speaking its not even worth critiquing, just saying he's flat stupid & terrible is enough
