lol good grief, no wonder so many people hated on Corgan in his prime. Guy just invites it on himself.

Lol no, I'm also referencing the now.

I mean the notoriously pompous Billy Corgan is now declaring that he be called William Patrick Corgan for crying out loud. Only difference is that nobody cares anymore.

Yeah I was just joking.

Billy is silly. I'd feel bad for his fall from grace if he hadn't landed on Airplane Mode. Now I just hate him, consumed as I am by the twin fires of hate for bElli and lust for Airplane Mode.

I love how you're basically trying to torture yourself into thinking that you like this song. God bless you child.

The last dump I took was better than Monuments, so comparing something to that album isn't saying much.

Maybe, but I don't think so. I rag on his stuff just as much as the next netphorian. It just feels like he gives half a shit in this song I think. That's a low bar, yeah, but one he hasn't met for a while

For the record I'm not like listening to it over and over or anything. But once in awhile when this thread is bumped or whatever I'll listen again

it's "song for a son" minus half of the half he put into that one.

Further update:

Figured out that the chorus sounds like Desire.
Like the instrumentation, reminds me of the Zwan hideout shows.
It's an ok song, that "lovers" line is lazy and shit.

No way. This song is preachy bullshit.

I actually don't get all the hate regarding Monuments. I mean it was nothing special, but it was the best release since Zeitgeist. Definitely a treat to listen to after all the disposable Teargarden crud.

"best release since Zeitgeist" is such an incredibly low bar

It's true it is better than the really bad 2009/2010 era Teargarden stuff, but other than that it's the worst collection of material Corgan has ever released

If I can be honest, the chord structure and vocal melody of Aeronaut is classic Billy.

Seriously, I don't think this has ever changed. The only thing that has changed (and horribly so) are the lyrics, vocal performance, instruments used, and horrible mix. Otherwise, this really doesn't sound too detached from, say, Disarm.

That's not to say the "horrible" things don't kill the song, they certainly do.

There's just no meat and potatoes to Billy's music anymore. Even if you think Aeronaut has the potential as a cool idea, it really just sounds like a demo.

I get that sometimes the minimalist approach has worked for Billy, but it's really become the norm now. Even a song like One and All which I like doesn't really have anything to sink your teeth into.

I think that's where Iha came into importance. Sure, he didn't write the songs, but he helped add the "nuts and sprinkles" on top for lack of a better metaphor. haha

At this point I don't know why Billy doesn't hook up with Butch Vig again. A new album with Jimmy on drums and produced by Butch Vig would undoubtedly create a lot of hype and draw a lot of attention to the album... Something that Billy hasn't been able to muster up since Zeitgeist. And really, the production has been one of the main issues hampering his material, so why not pair up with the guy who was able to work wonders with him?

You have to wonder what kinda people Billy has managing him these days. This shit isn't rocket science but they keep on floundering around, unable to create much public interest in any of the new material.

Though washed up, he's still a house-hold name for crying out loud. The lack of success he's had with attaining any semblance of relevancy really is a lack of direction from useless management as much as it is Billys declining output.

Yeah, there's more repetition now than there used to be as well.

Also, you have to ask if Butch Vig would be "up" to working with Billy again.

the best thing about early pumpkins is that some songs would just keep going in different directions and not repeat stuff (or only repeat twice)

ruby, for example
