I get the sense a lot of what's on zeitgeist was written around the drum parts. As far as detached drums go on sp records, this record takes the cake. And I'd be willing to concentrate on all the other other musical things going on here if the Drums weren't so fucking high in the mix. If you've got a shit drummer, bury him in th mix! But fuck smashing pumpkins and shit drummer should not be uttered in the same sentence.. Yet here we are.

The drumming on Zeitgeist was the only good thing about that album. I'd love to hear what this album could have been like it if had a capable drummer.

I'm listening right now...and the songs do have more genuine depth/dynamic to them than pretty much anything since SP2. They're not bad and of course I prefer the harder rocking ones. But TURN UP THE GODDAMNED GUITAR. There are some pretty cool chord/riff progressions buried in there. Also - what everyone else has been saying - what the fuck is up with the vocals?! It shouldn't sound like I'm listening to the rest of the album being played outside the recording booth while I'm listening to you record the vocals while inside the booth with you.

One Diamond, One Heart and Pinwheels are both really fucking awful. Even worse than anything from Machina. They almost ruin the album. Quasar and Panopticon are amazing. The intro and guitar solo towards the end of Quasar is too good to be true. Violet Rays and and My Love Is Winter are solid tracks.

To Mikes credit we are all used to a premier fucking kick ass drummer... But thats what made SP special... Having that dynamic lost does take away from a lot of the charm... Which is why billy should have changed the name... But different topic for a different thread/discussed to death etc.
