French Connection II after my screenwriting teacher recommended I see it. It was in response to the wound I described my protagonist having.

I don't even know how to rate this film or if I should feel insulted at the rec. I guess I'll play it safe and give it a 7.

@slunken

is the movie really that good? I'm not super into that scene though that's not to say I couldn't become so

Robert DeNiro doing any comedies at all seems like a really stupid idea.

Cash grab is what comes to mind.

He was great in Meet the Parents and Analyze This/Analyze That.

but really, just thinking aloud, I can't really think of the last relevant movie he's starred in.

Maybe he is just desperate for a cash-grab at this point... Sorta sad to think about.

That movie Last Vegas that he was in looked super promising and was equally ridiculous too.

nicholson/deniro/pacino all really dragged their own names through the mud in their older years.
i get that they're human beings who only seek to enjoy their life and keep working, just like everyone else, but it's a shame really

the witch - I had lots of problems with it but the ending makes up for most of it. it's just such a lovely ending. it's one of those things people love or hate too. lots of divisive opinions from friends whose opinions I trust too. it's slow as molasses at times. some bad acting. story can feel stupid but... I dug the ending.

Vacation remake - offensively stupid crap

I can't think of any actor that's fallen quite as far from grace as De Niro.

The sad thing being that success is measured in dollars and the artistically bereft twilight of his career has also been the most lucrative for all involved.

The name recognition sure has to pay the bills nicely.

@ B0lly: Kinda fucked up that Jacks turning 80 next year... Crazy to think that he hasn't even done any work since 2003. Guess he just has fun partying it up watching Lakers games.

Not even good for a cheap laugh? I love Ed Helms and Christina Applegate and they have this movie offered for free by my cable provider... Keep on meaning to watch it, but just can't bring myself to do it.

that nicholson scene of crying and laughing at the same time in About Schmidt is one of the most memorable in cinema history for me

X-Men: Oscar Issacpocalypse

Felt a bit half-baked and rushed, which is a shame considering how masterful (for the most part) Days of Future Past was. Lots of new faces, little character development. Oscar Issac was wasted as Apocalypse, I fear, his considerable acting talents buried underneath gimmky effects and an underdeveloped script. For a character that is supposed to be omnipotent, he sure didn't seem as threatening as he should have been. Sophie Turner, surprisingly, seemed bored as Jean Grey...a pity, I was really looking forward to seeing what she could do outside of Game of Thrones. Olivia Munn seemed to be cosplaying Psylocke...she suffers from Henry Cavill Syndrome (she looks the part but that's about it). To be honest, everyone except Evan Peters, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy seemed to be going through the motions. That includes the normally reliable J-Law as Mystique; she more than perhaps anyone else in the movie seems to be there just for the paycheck. Some decent action and neat effects as expected, but this was definitely the weakest X-Men movie since Origins: Wolverine. Needed a few more re-writes.

C+

Taxi Driver. Pretty Good. B+

Didn't realise Harvey Keitel and Frank from ELR were in it. Or Jodie Foster. So it was fun seeing them just turn up. Bob Denirro was actually pretty hot, huh. For a lil guy.

Jungle book: b-

Clearly a very impressive thing to create. Visually amazing. Story is kinda weak, scenes with the giant primate King (Christopher walken) added nothing, could have been cut entirely, kid actor was strong action wise but weak dialogue wise.

Edit: a day later I want to downgrade this to a C

C+ for the 'X-Men: I would prefer the real apocalypse' is very generous.

The camera work pissed me off, and the shooting scenes were pretty naff. Just a product of its time, really. I guess taking into account the limitations of the day, I could bump it up to an A-. It was a very good watch.

i really enjoyed the first few x-men's by brian singer but everything since then has been complete bullshit (inc the prequel-y ones that came out like a couple years ago that for some reason everybody liked).

i was really hoping the apocalypse one would be a solid return to form, especially considering how great of a villain apocalypse is in the comics, but oh well. i guess i won't even bother downloading it.

Yeah, might drop it to a C. It wasn't brutally bad...but yeah, I was disappointed.

Next movie might need a fresh approach, maybe a different writer and/or director.

An atrocity, I went in with no expectations of it being good and it still disappointed me

Rewatched The Cable Guy due to Reprises suggestion. I give it an A. It's a lot more hilarious than I remembered it to be. Definitely something that's better watched as an adult. While the premise is incredibly dark, that aspects overshadowed by the over the top comedic value.

Probably the best Jim Carey movie.
