I'll start with news on vaccines... Moderna will soon begin a phase II trial.

Systemic racism created the health disparities that made black and brown Americans more vulnerable to dying from coronavirus, public health experts say; and now the same racism is also shaping, and undermining, the country’s political response to the pandemic.

there is already a thread where people generally complain, i guess trump stuff should go there as well.

I'd like this to be science-centric rather than 🇺🇸-centric and politics. News articles and discussion on them.

Chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19: why might they be hazardous?

https://www.thelancet.com/journals/l...174-0/fulltext

The study:

many people still seem hopeful for HCQ+zinc... I don't know if there are any ongoing RCTs.

Research reveals gene role in both dementia and severe Covid-19

"People with a genetic mutation that increases the risk of dementia also have a greater chance of having severe Covid-19, researchers have revealed.

The study is the latest to suggest genetics may play a role in why some people are more vulnerable to the coronavirus than others, and could help explain why people with dementia have been hard hit: dementia is one of the most common underlying health conditions among those who have died from Covid-19 in England and Wales."

Why scientists are changing their minds and disagreeing during the coronavirus pandemic

"The situation is complicated by the fact that pre-print research is often being debated in public on social media, instead of behind closed doors."

The chronic uncertainty of the science community has certainly proven to me that I'm better off taking my facts from one political blog.

when i feel uncertain and anxious, i just ruminate and stare at walls. but sometimes i can keep it cool and walk away from the feeling and go do something productive. i never pray, though, but i do make wishes under trains still.

Sux that the Spanish Flu started here, but it got named after the Spanish just cause they were the first to report it. Should have named measles, mumps, smallpox, and Mexican Christianity after them, though.

That's a topic I've been concerned about, and this is an interesting perspective on it. Thanks for finding that.
