Hey, I read this board all the time for the hell of it and I can totally understand ALL the criticisms Billy gets. Billy's never going to sound like he used to, I've given up that hope. I mean the dude is in his 40's.
I am happy though that he's still making music because he influenced me quite a bit and I'll always respect him as an artist. I think Zeitgeist is pretty subpar, but then again I also think his solo and ZWAN were pretty "ehh" as well after eveything is said and done. But, I have to be honest with myself and say I really do like the two tracks so far with ASFAS being the better of the two. And I am confident they're both two good steps in the right direction for where he needs to be with his music at this point in his life. |

Stop playing into each others' hands right now. Don't make me settle this King Solomon style.

I finally got around to listening to this song.
After reading all of the hate, I thought for sure it was just an overreaction. That there's no way the song could be as bad as everyone was making it out to be. That people were just hating for the sake of hating. Yeah. It is definitely the worst SP song of all time. Hands down. Here's the thing. Do I like that Billy is trying new things, and not trying to copy the past? Sure. I think it's very admirable. But he strayed so far from his roots in this song that he straight-up produced a total failure. Did he fail at trying? No. Did he fail at succeeding? Big time. It's total garbage. -The song itself is shamefully shallow -The vocal performance makes me cringe with embarrassment -The drumming is annoyingly weak, especially the "attempts" to show off at the end -The bridge contains the worst lyrics Billy has ever written It sounds like a mix of Hanson, Britney Spears, Zwan and bullshit. I should add that I love his use of synths in both this song and A Song for a Son. He should keep that up. But that doesn't mean he didn't fuck everything else up. Billy? Good job at being brave enough to try something new. And Billy? Widow Wake My Mind is one of the worst pieces of shit I've ever heard. Done. |

Really now. Now you're reducing yourself to challenging me to a "true fan" pissing contest? Have you gone insane? But you know what, I'll let you win by default. Anyone who thinks that WWMM is the worst Billy could ever do must be much more optimistic about where rock bottom is for Billy than I am, and thus must be a truer fan. |

I kinda think the drums are the least of WWMM's problems.

my point here is that a lot of us DO find the presence of Jimmy/James/Darcy important and they they really did contribute to the overall success of the pumpkins heyday. I honestly believe that that group as a whole DID contribute to the songs, not necessarily by writing credits but by energy and dynamic. Sure, BC recorded a good chunk on the first couple albums, and i love those records, but i prefer the sound and energy of the 4 members playing together. Butch Vig and Flood themselves said that the band energy was an incredibly important part of the bands sound and made those record what they were. The MCIS demos is the best example you have to go by? I'm sorry but I don't believe those demos would have sold 10 million copies on their own.. It took that band months and months of rehearsals to get those songs right. But you feel they are not important. and that's how you feel about it good for you. you believe it's a corgan party and he's completely responsible for the success of that band. basically you argue that the drums could have been played by any other drummer, the bass parts, guitar parts.. like those peoples own individual creativity's contributed zilch. I'm sorry man, but imo the SMASHING PUMPKINS are much, much bigger than just Billy Corgan and his song writing alone. When was the last time SP sold multi million copies in the US alone? oh yeah.. the last time all 4 original members were in on it full force. And good for you, I can respect that you feel it's all up to corgan.. but to act like other fans opinions don't matter because they don't view it in the way you do then go on some sort of tirade about it is pretty ignorant on your behalf. So what if I feel Jimmy/James/Darcy contributed a great deal to the pumpkins music? I have plenty of evidence to back up this claim, as do other fans, but to argue about it with you is pointless. you just love to disagree with 'netphoria.' And to call such fans delusional? well then sir fuck you. Unless you can back up your claims with better musical evidence than just 'mellon collie demos everything was there!!' just drop it already. |

This board is great, every thread leads to the same argument where it gets personal between the fans who like the songs and those who dont like its the end of the fucking world. Oh, and sorry I know I dont have a lot of posts on here I really dont give a shit, it seems like its the same 20 people bitching in every single thread on here anyway

Corgan is the Pumpkins, but without D'Arcy, Iha and Jimmy, the Pumpkins seem to suck. What's with that Billy?
