I mean I for sure like The Stones, early Stones in particular. That Swagger is undeniable, but when you put them in the same conversation as The Beatles it makes me want to dislike them because The Beatles are just a far more interesting band imo

I thought I would remember a few Beatles titles I could name as my favorites - but I can't, not off the top of my head. I'd need to cheat and look up a few albums and singles. the only song titles I can think of right now are Yellow Submarine and Strawberry Fields Forever.
At least for Stones singles I remember lyrics and melodies, too.

wrong board and all to go into the 10th edition of "what is punk" - but you have a funny idea of "punk as fuck."

It is actually incredible to me that someone couldn't name 15 great Beatles songs off the top of one's head.

I'm surprised myself, but I really can't, I never cared enough.
huhuh, 3rd one, all you need is love? managed 3 song titles, failed the class, I go sit in the Stones corner now.

I feel like the Beatles and the Smiths didn't stick around long enough to become really annoying, a trick that the Stones and U2 never figured out.

I think it's totally fine to not like The Beatles just like any other band

I really hate how people act like if you don't like The Beatles you must revoke your music card or something

I'm not going to argue about punk in this thread too

But I just think he's a renegade leftist. He wasn't a nice guy, but he had the right ideas

right?

taxman, eleanor rigby, while my guitar gently weeps, across the universe, come together, here comes the sun, everybody's got something to hide except me and my monkey, helter skelter, i'm only sleeping, sgt pepper's lonley hearts club, blackbird, yesterday, back in the ussr, good day sunshine, tomorrow never knows, nowhere man, maxwell's silver hammer...

i mean, 95% of the songs are great. after you get past the first couple albums the rate is close to 100%

What I hate about The Beatles is that they don't let streaming services have the rights to their music.

It's 2014.

I have to actually listen to their music via Youtube if I'm craving it

Daytripper has got to be the most universal song among musicians. No matter who I'm playing with if I start that riff everyone knows what to do

"She said, She said" is my favorite song by anyone ever

"She said, I know what it's like to be dead
I know what it is to be sad"

When someone becomes successful do they instantly shred their punk card? Serious question

Of course, The Beatles having a song where they complain about the Taxman is where shit gets a little hypocritical

there's a difference between being successful and then writing songs against materialism when you're a gigantic materialist

also from what i understand he was incredibly vain and petty and caused most of the strife within the band

But I mean if you're pushing for a system that will make you no longer wealthy, then I think it's admirable

Lennon has this voice where he can sing about being cruel to his woman and I still sympathize with him and fucking love him to death. I don't know how you describe that, it's just so warm and cozy
