Default 2015 releases

is it too early to start the best of 2015 thread?

what about new releases worth checking out or something, at least we'd have one thread without the usual 5 pages of "maaaaan, the 90ies!"

hightlights of new albums so far:

- Björk: Vulnicura
- Sleater-Kinney: No Cities to Love
- BADBADNOTGOOD & Ghostface Killah: Sour Soul

and I hope the new Steven Wilson album is as great as expected, just started listening.

aine o'dwyer - music for church cleaners vol I and II

Quote:
Over the course of several months, Áine O'Dwyer was given access to the pipe organ in St Mark’s Church, Islington while the cleaners were at work. Primarily a harpist, this was a rare opportunity to grapple with the "king of instruments" and apply her sense of melodic, structured improvisation in a very different context.

Here, the synth-like whoosh of the vacuum cleaner, a child's laughter, various echoed clatters and chatter become part of the music.

The album is multifaceted and conceptually satisfying in many ways. It's simultaneously a series of solo improvisations, a site-specific piece of performance art, rich in chance elements, and even qualifies as a field recording, where the transcendent and menial meet. Despite the absence of cheers and applause, it's also a live album. In this new extended incarnation, it becomes almost a kind of minimalist opera, with a subtle plot of polite contention softening amid curiosity about the trumpet that takes us out of this most concrete of recordings with a single psychedelicised blast.

The new Purity Ring album is my favorite of the year so far. I predict Purity Ring and the Weeknds next one will be the best albums of the year.

I like this one. makes me want to find a church around here that allows you to listen to organ practice.

I'm cautious about the new Modest Mouse, but will definitely give it a chance. I'm seeing them in July - pretty exciting.

My favorite releases so far are Bjork's Vulnicura and Open Mike Eagle's A Special Episode Of EP. I'm sure the new Sufjan will be a favorite too.

team sleep, blur, drake, fnm, day for night?? i 'onno, what else is there in life? new modest mouse? what do they only do one album a fucking decade now? oh yeah & fucking NEW ORDER laskdrblaksdrblasdk;rnb!

i'm sure yeezus has a new thing poppin' about but he's gotten to the point in his outright public idiocy where i don't know if i can even justify buyin his product anymore. maybe how someone is as a person doesn't always directly correlate with the quality of the art (see PN-fucking-D) but atm i can only get so excited over the shit from a man who did the whole "ooh respect the artistry i 'on even give a what about books they so damn wordy yeah by the way i ain't even heard that album, ahaha, imma let you finish part 2 jus playin but i'm not playin!"

prob be better than yeezus tho

I wish there was some new artists that actually excited me. I check out all of this new music and it does nothing for me.

Theres no intensity in it at all anymore... it's all so bland.

I mean, sure if you want "intensity" you could listen to generic Metal and shit but that stuff bores me to tears.

some of the newer electronic music out there's pretty intense but if you're just looking for rock or whatever well

i 'onno, might not be finding yourself on the money too often

outside of that, i don't know
there's always the church-music choirboy shit that passes as "relevant 'smart pop'" these days!

I like electronica music enough, but I'm just such a fan of the guitar and drums. While I'll like and enjoy the vibe that Electronic music creates, it just doesn't have that authenticity for me.

What I loved about the bands in the 90's is that there was always a sense of real urgency in the songs. There was intensity and drama and a nice balance going on.

I check out all of the critical darlings nowadays and it just doesn't get me going- it's all so subdued. And I can't even listen to new rock radio at all anymore. It's beyond fucking terrible.

It kinda sucks.

I guess it happens to every fucking guy getting old though.

Like I'd always wonder why my pops would only listen to the classics when there was all this awesome new music coming out.

It sucks that I'm now That Guy

um, no, first of all you're only 28. I live with a 46 year old who isn't half the music dinosaur you are. what happens often is that you're not 16 anymore and hardly that moved and excited by music.

you want guitars? so far I've enjoyed the new Steven Wilson (of Porcupine Tree), and Dan Mangan - Club Meds.
