October 11, 2014

According to various 'news' sources, Resistance Pro no longer has a television show in production. Which is funny, because I'm currently in Minneapolis with R Pro filming that 'cancelled' show

Think of it this way: a band starts making album. But halfway thru process the Label they're on decides they only want a certain type of music (in this case: original programming, not unscripted). Band keeps making album while another label is found. Simple, but with various unknowns.
news: "AMC is canning reality shows but will help to find them another network."
Corgan: wrong reports, I still have my show, it's getting recorded right now!!

Quote:
So here's what I can share: AMC Network so far has been great. As have our production partners Left-Right, who are with us here to film tonight's event. And though there are grim elements to a story like this (change, people getting fired) there might yet be a silver lining.

I for one have worked for 3 years on this, and after innumerable meetings and lawyers and all that jazz, I remained convinced that we have in our hands a groundbreaking show. Yes, that means to imply that you can have pro wrestling and groundbreaking in the same sentence.

And though there have been huge disappointments along the way (the least of which is the low hanging fruit: of rockstar + wrestling = stupidity, etc; the greatest involving how the addition of cameras turns usually normal folk into Pontius Pilate), I still hold on to the notion that it is better to try to break molds than preserve them. And with this show, as-yet untitled, we have; and if given the chance: we will.

But not before I take a sober look at what's involved. And not before I contemplate what any further interface with the world (beyond rock and roll) asks of me.

As most of you who read the Nexus know, I have a new album coming out in less than 2 months. And invariably I'll be asked, 'why do a show like this?'

The answer, if there is one, is because the show explores a truly unexplored sub-culture; filled as it is with good souls and troubled ones. And what happens to that sub-culture if you add, like a deus ex machina, a kind hand. If American cultural life is any indication, something innocent will be sacrificed for something cheap; and that, my friends, is where the real 'why' question should be asked.

reading is hard for me, too.
did he just call his circus of fake violence and amateur porn "innocent" and scripted series like Breaking Bad "cheap"?
he wouldn't, right...

aaah, thank you, that would make more sense.
cheap as in... he has no idea what he's referring to, since he never saw either or has any idea of viewing numbers and reasons to keep those up.
Like when he's referring to current bands and the lack of good music without listening to it...

only two unscripted series will remain in AMC's lineup: the Chris Hardwick-hosted Walking Dead companion series Talking Dead and Kevin Smith's Comic Book Men.
Gene Simmons and Corgan should get together and lick their wounds - the KISS' arena football show now needs to find a new network, too.

As expected, Corgan seems really sore over this. Though, I'm not sure why he's trying to make it seem like the show is still in production, it's not like finding a new network is going to be easy. It took two years just to get one's attention. I just don't see this project going anywhere. The only wrestling that can still draw numbers is the WWE, so I don't see a network (considering all the competition and other issues they face) picking this up.

I understand that he's passionate about wrestling, but I think he'd be hard pressed to convince most people that it's a groundbreaking subculture.

that's actually the exact opposite of why he enjoys it. he likes it because it's the complete opposite of groundbreaking. he sees it as one of the oldest forms of the performing/entertainment/carnival/vaudeville/theater/whateveryouwanttocallit arts still in existence today.

he explains it better in interviews. it's an interesting take on the subject for sure.

In the post he just put up he said he has a truly "groundbreaking show" and "the show explores a truly unexplored sub-culture". So, I don't know, he says a lot of things.

okay so like even if that's true you're the one that combined groundbreaking and subculture from two different quotes. not that it matters but i'm just saying.

here's some saturday school for you: in the first quote he says the show could be groundbreaking. in the second quote he explains that this is because he feels that the subject matter is an unexplored subculture.

ah, I see what you mean now. I didn't realise I had done that. It was not my intention, it's just me being lazy. I meant he would be hard pressed to convince people it's a groundbreaking show that represents a true subculture (personally, i think wrestling has been quite mainstream since the WWE).

he's speaking about how you can trace the roots of modern theatrical wrestling as far back as at least the early 1800s. BC explains in some interviews that he finds it interesting because he sees it almost as an ancient form of theater arts that somehow still exists relevently today. you can't necessarily say the same thing about magic or ventriliquism or even circuses and all the acts that they contain.

i'm sure the show wasn't going to attack this historical angle i'm just saying this is how bc has explained his own interest in the subject. he's a history buff everyone knows that.

Yeah, i temember him talking about that now. That's the thing, though, I didn't think he would actually present it through a historical lens. But then again, Billy also likes to say that wrestling is just like Shakespeare, which is ridiculous, that's like comparing anything that has a script and a stage to Shakespeare's works because they have those in common.

What about about a Pawn Stars type show. Call it Pawn Starz. I can just see him now scowling at people behind the counter when they try getting fresh with the amount of money they want.

It actually makes sense that Corgan would dig wrestling when you really think about it even though it's stupid and everything

Remember when Kirsten Dunst was hot? Such a long time ago... this is way after that time though that's probably still the best she's looked since like 2001.

Anyway i'd like to laugh at Corgan's love of wrestling but i own the first two Mick foley autobiographies so...

It's like that weird shameful thing i want to pretend i never cared for but i totally did watch it as a kid and then again some time in the 90's, like in early adulthood. When i bought those Mick Foley books, i hid them from my gf for like a year but it turns out she didn't shame me for them when she found them (more like made her sad I thought she might judge me for owning them)

But yeah, I have a feeling McMahon was never worried.

I would never shame anyone for liking wrestling, it's certainly not my thing but I don't mind that other people like it. I just question why Billy felt the need to completely consume his life with wrestling and go as far as starting his own promotion. He talks about it nonstop, he even invites them to his interviews, and his social life now seems to solely revolve around them. It's just a strange turn of events for a guy whose life was consumed by music and art at one point.
