My local paper tried to say he is the next Tupac which is ridiculous. For one Tupac was a narcissist and also his later and mid period work was nothing like his early work which was more conscious thoughtful rap. By the mid 90s he had ditched all that for the " thug life" stuff.

I didn't listen to Good Kid but I figure this album is just going to be everywhere all year so I may as well listen to it.

But for real i'm tipping I Don't Like Shit I Don't Go Outside to be the best rap album of the year. I know none of you suckers replied to my DORIS thread but Earl Sweatshirt is the fucking man.

I liked Tyler's Goblin but other than that I haven't liked hardly any Odd Future. But I am willing to give the new Earl a try at least. I have no interest in the new Kendrick. I dont really like rap with funk or soul influences anymore. I'm over that stuff. I have no desire to listen to OutKast anymore.

Tyler is a fucking moron and the worst rapper in the crew. Earl, Hodgy Beats, Vince Staples, Domo Genesis, Frank Ocean, that's where its at.

I forgot. I do actually like some songs with Mike G too. He's a pretty good rapper and has a really nice mellow voice. I've only heard Mike G on other peoples songs though. Not any of his solo stuff.

first time I listened to an entire Lamar album, all these FIVE STAR reviews got to me.
some tracks sound great, but I can't help thinking "let someone else rap on this who has something to say and a voice I like"....

besides the last two tracks - "I (Extended Version)" and "Mortal Man", I really like those.
guess Lamar just isn't for me, Ghostface foreva.

good kid mad city is much more accesible (and has less guests), I'd recommend checking that out before the new album

listened to it tonight, fucking great

it was different from the first major label, but not so much to justify the people who "didn't like that one but looove this one" that's bullshit, fuck the good kid haters

i disagree that this one's less accessible because as a full album it seemed to go down easier for me, but that coulda just been cos i was primed for some new kendrick lamar

on the other hand it also seemed more "to-the-point" in a lot of ways, wasn't sitting through kenny's dad asking about his dominos or mom saying prayers for however many minutes in between songs

I heard the new Earl song Grief. Really good. Has a cloud rap feel to it.

I hadn't heard an album by him before, so in my case redbull was right to suggest gkmc, I found that really more "accessible."
down the line I just have to pass on Lamar, though. seems like I can't find more/newish rappers I enjoy, I'm stuck with the oldies - Wu-tanglings, Nas etc.
