What makes a good SP album is the balance between loud and quiet. So, going from the almost silent intro of Soma to the multiple guitars of the main solo, back to the quiet ending with all the breathy vocals. Or Hummer's dreamy verses, contrasting with the louder choruses.

And that's the other thing that makes a good SP album - good vocals. The balance again, between breathy, boyish, sighing vocals, and harder, edgier vocals.

Neither of these two things have been present on a single SP song since the breakup (or even since Adore if we're being honest). The vocals have been monotone / one setting only, with no contrast. The guitars have either been full-on rawk or used more in the background (with those annoying synths in the foreground).

There's only been one instance of a kind-of contrast, and that was the breakdown section in Tarantula. But that was it.

I think a new album will be alright because Iha and Rubin will call Billy out on his shit like Jeff won’t.

Is there any evidence that Iha is even involved in the writing and recording?

The album's going to be terrible. I have a bad feeling that Run2Me will seem not so bad when compared.

There's no evidence. He's visited one day. probably didn't even pick up a guitar. All he said was "yeah, cool stuff guys" in a monotone sheepish tone.
