I'd have to agree its a lot easier to accept MADM and Matt Walker as honorary members. They're from the same era of bands and music, and its much more natural to see them playing in the band than the post reunion members, who should probably be trying to make new music with their own bands.

I wonder how much it bothers Billy that there’s a giant section of the fanbase who won’t accept anyone (even his beloved Jeff) besides the 3 other members of the core 4 as legitimate members. D’Arcy I think implied it really bothers him. She was referring to fan just wanting her in that specific instance but she made it clear she knows fans want all 4 together again rather than any one member.

Also, have we ever figured out why Byrne was sacked? It seems especially odd that there was never an official band announcement that Byrne was leaving over their social media or anything. IIRC, somebody asked Corgan about Byrne in an interview, and Corgan just replied unceremoniously that "Bryne has left the building." Most bands have the class to formally announce departures like that and wish the exiting member well publicly, even if the breakup was actually acrimonious behind the scenes.

It is not a "band". It is just Billy. No one else has a say in how the business is run.

Bill fired Mike and Nicole abruptly and they found out about it via his comments in public interviews and social media. He never directly gave them any clear reason.

At one point he made comments about Nicole being too focused on her "side project"... Which was actually her partner, Meg's, album.

He said shit like that about Mike too. That he was distracted by his high school band, Bearcubbin. That he was unprofessional. Etc

Meg (Nicole's ex) did kick starter type fundraisers to fund two albums that she recorded while Nicole was with SP. A lot of SP fans chipped in because Nicole was tweeting about it. Nicole played bass and sang on both of her albums.

Meg's album got brought up in a couple of media interviews with the band during Oceania touring. Billy seemed pissed off about it. He didn't like media asking any questions about Nicole's life outside of SP.

Maybe the reason that Byrne was fired was that he, being as much as a Pumpkins fan as anyone else, also thought the new music blew, and was vocal about getting the band to change direction? Maybe he's truly been /ourguy/ all along. I think this is the most Corgan has ever said about Byrne's departure:

"Mike Byrne has taught me a lot about his generation. And watching the twitch up close, the ADD of it all, I’m starting to understand what he found boring about The Mighty SP. He wasn’t wrong. But he also wasn’t right, too."

But with Corgan, who knows if Byrne actually expressed that he finds SP boring, or if Corgan just made an inferrence and started resenting Byrne for thoughts Corgan himself attributed to him out of paranoia.

Of all the people Billy has shit on over the years Nicole was way over the line. She was very dedicated to SP, just like Jeff. She would spend a lot of time hanging out with fans. I always wondered whether Bill was jealous of her. He may have always had a token woman in his bands but he is a fucking misogynist and does not like women who take attention away from him
