Default Tarantula about James?

OK, anyone think about the Tarantula lyrics not being political?
And I mean the following parts:

Don't let me say this
But you're no worse than me
It's crazy

Billy acceptence of their problems not being James' fault only.

Get out and take your place then

Like he did so many times in recording songs?

Come along you'll see the world
The pulse ripples, the crowd unfurls
The current starts to flow and they are on

An open invitation to join the current world tour?

Don't break the oath

Once a Pumpkin, always a Pumpkin?

----

Maybe I'm nuts, punch me for all I'm worth, just a thought. If I'm wrong, please tell me what the lyrics mean to YOU!

I doubt it. 'I want to love you when you're sad'?

But that's a nice theory.

Plus, James was born with 8 legs (he had 6 of them amputated at a very early age)...I think you're onto something.

Yes he also has 6 eyes (or is it 8?), his hair covers all but two of them.

I still think it's relationship metaphor of fans to the band or music in general. Like a message that closed mindedness or acting a certain way does not make you right or wrong, Love-Music. It only causes controversy or undermines what those things mean, from the sharing perspective.

The thought had occurred to me that this might be about James. I also thought it might be about Courtney and other early-alt rock icons who have faded from the public eye. It also might be about Billy internally fighting himself on whether or not he wants to be a rock star. Its probably a mix of all of those things. The title still confuses me though. Someone said he explained why he called the song that... anyone know what the reasoning was?

You know the simplest explanation would be B0lly is writing a love song to a tarantula. None of these bullshit metaphors and searching for a deeper meaning. okay. Billy is trying to bag this spanking hot spidy he noticed at a nightclub but she only puts out if a song is written about her.

Cool theory, Sarrod. I hadn't looked at it that way. But when he drops the L bomb, I have to disagree. Maybe. Nothing wrong with dude love and the bro hugs where you pat each other's back.

Yeah, but he says "everything I want is in your eyes." That sounds like romantic love. That's why I thought it might be more about Courtney, since they used to be together. Maybe he thought she could have been a much bigger star if she wasn't a human trainwreck. But she is, so he's like, "fuck it, I'll be the icon, then." i don't know.

i've always thought that shame was maybe about jimmy and his getting kicked out of the band. but i don't think that billy writes songs about ex band members, he justs posts blogs about them behind their backs.

I thought it was just a song to the fans and a "We're back motherfuckers" kind of song.

Why would Billy write Tarantula about an Asian woman? The song isn't called Tarantura.

That is essentially what it is imo, there is a lot about the fans especially if you consider it metaphorically. It's a "forget about the controversy", "I just want to be there playing for the people who appreciated us and the soul of the band is still here".

The only thing which made me think about music in general was the video, which made me think perhaps he means music in general is all the same at its base point and therefore it is all equal and to dislike it because of the look/style or circumstances around it is unfair. Kinda like a reunion comparison.

Yes I do like to over analyze
