Nu-metal was in fashion 97-2000 and it made a lot of alt rock sound tepid by comparison (not to mention that most nu-metal wasn’t very good). Parts of Machina sound like an attempt to capitalize on that sound.

I mean yes, that's pretty much what I said. Adore lost the band their casual, mainstream audience. But Machina actually baffled people because they thought they knew what they were getting. You might not care what critics say, but Billy did at the time: He could always be smug about the fact that Adore might not have sold well but was appreciated as an artistic statement by critics and plenty of fans. Adore lost him his alt-rock crown, but it was Machina that lost him respect. That's why I think it can be seen as the bands first real failure.

TEG, Heavy Metal Machine, and multiple tracks on Machina 2. Not to mention him suddenly using baritone Gibson’s tuned to C.

TEG and HMM are two of the worst Machina tracks.

They donít need remixing, they need removing entirely from this reissue.

I like the chorus of TEG but the acapella part was cringeworthy since day one. It’s a lesser version of Zero.

You mean you don't want to hold in the everlasting gaze enchanted in the rapture of his sentimental sway but underneath the wheels lie the skulls of every cog the fickle fascination of an everlasting god?

YOU KNOW I’M NOT DED
IMMA LIVIN’ IN MY HEAD

YOU KNOWA YOU KNOWA

Awful.
Just fucking terrible.

BONUS: THE DISCO NIGHTS ARE OVER NOW!

Because every version of this song sucked. It’s a busy riff, there are dozens of better ones on the Pistachio Medley.

It's funny that they gave away free tapes of "Heavy Metal Machine" to promote the "Machina" album.

May not have been a successfull campaign, more the opposite...

Lucky 13 and Cash Car Star are better than TEG.

Any song from the outtakes is better than HMM.

I can imagine the disappointment of people who went to the Arising tour, loved a lot of the new songs which then were dropped from the album or reworked almost unrecognisably lol

I think Glass + The Ghost Children and With Every Light and Stand Inside Your Love were the only survivors that made it onto Machina mostly unchanged?

Machina II:
Speed Kills
Glass' Theme
Dross
Cash Car Star
If There Is a God

Reworked:
Virex
Blue Skies Bring Tears (although the Arising version is out there)
Wound

You really think this is going to be a realization of his original vision, tho? Recording new tracks with the new band?

The only thing nu metal about said songs is the tuning. I really canít hear any of those late 90ís bands doing something like TEG or HMM.. which clearly still have that sabbath/Bowie inspiration behind them.

Especially dross. That straight up sounds like an extension of the zero single more than an attempt at following the nu metal trend.

I don't think he's planning to do that, though?

afaik he's going to remix all the old tracks but not re-recording them.

I'm not getting my hopes up though, I expect vocals way up front and everything brickwalled to death

I think he meant some tracks that were never finished (some of the ones that leaked on netphoria in 2014)

He only brought that up when someone asked about a "Machina 3", so if he does that those'll be on a future release.

Also yes on Machina dipping its toes into the Nu-Metal sound. It was my first reaction when I first put the album on and heard TEG for the first time: "It's like a lower, crunchier take on Zero or something".

Is there a way to rip the samples he's putting up from the IG or Twitter feed? If he really is planning on putting out a bunch of them there could be a Pastichio Machinio.
