I saw Mary Star of the Sea at the Goodwill for $2.50, kind of upsetting as I think that is a great album.
Although I think Adore has moments of absolute brilliance, I feel that it lacks the cohesion that Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness have; as a matter of fact, the album lags a bit from Tear to Shame, however when things pick up things pick up. However, when the sequencing works, it works well. To Sheila, Ava Adore, and Perfect are some of the best opening tracks I have ever heard, and nothing quite matches the beauty of Shame, Behold! The Nightmare, For Martha, Blank Page, and 17. |

great post mariner, your opinons are dead on with how i feel about the record.
It always struck me that To Sheila, AD, Shame and Blank Page seemed so inspired and of the moment, as though the spirit struck the band at random moments and produced some flawless songs. I remember when i first heard shame, it sounded to me like the closest thing to the "pumpkins sound" and spirit on the record, and was completely dissapointed when i saw that so many fans disliked that song (and still do). it's the most genuine SP song to have come out post MCIS in the past 10 years. Although i disagree with your stance on TTODAPP and For Martha.. two tunes that I also feel were done right on the record. FM does seem somewhat stale during its first couple of minutes, but the last half (especially the ending) saves the spirit and intention of that song. Another tune I felt the band seemed "together" on. |

I wouldn't say the production is crappy by any means (especially compared with all the albums that followed it), but compared to the warmth of Gish-MCIS, it seems a little tinny at times. Just a little. And I still love it with all my heart.
MSOTS is a wonderful album, and I will never ever understand the hate. |

Oh, and MSOTS is okay but easily Corgan's worst album.
Also, the production on Adore = outstanding. Astonishing balance of a LOT of sounds going on. Also, Adore vinyl = mono? Fuck that. |

I went into my local coffee shop yesterday and they were playing the entire Adore album. It made me really happy. Usually they're playing like.. Rilo Kiley and Feist which I don't mind, but it was a nice change.

SD > PI > Mellon Collie = Gish > Adore > Machina = Machina II = TFE > Zeitgeist = MSTOS as far as total albums go, but similar to one poster above, on the lower end albums there are songs that I listen to more than the complete upper end albums.
