I think this was the first song I heard from Machina. It made me wonder how Machina wasn't so well received, until I heard the whole album.

It's a really good one. For something apparently recorded in haste IMO it's got one of the best choruses from the album. With Every Light should have been the closer, sure, but this still kind of works as an epilogue track, if that makes sense. "That's it, band's done."

Maybe it'd have been more effective if it were hidden after a few minutes of silence.

Was debuted at Bridge School in '99 - remember hearing the recordings and being SO stoked for Machina. Having loved all of the songs from the Arising tour, then knowing that this one might sneak on there just ratcheted up my excitement for the album another notch or two.

Every once in a while I think about how Billy's original intention was to have the last sound you ever heard on a Pumpkins record be that super-distorted "MMMBLURGH SKIES MMBRING TEARMSMSMS" and I laugh a little

There was one country that probably did have that experience haha. Doesn't the Japanese edition with Speed Kills have a slightly altered tracklisting that has BSBT last?

I seriously doubt that D'arcy played anything on Machina or Machina II.
Flood did a Q&A some time ago where he discussed this. Billy and James split bass 50/50 on Machina I. D'arcy shows up on parts of Machina II (since a lot of those songs were from rehearsals or rough takes), but Billy re-did some of her parts himself.

yeah, which is bizarre since Speed Kills works well after AoI anyway, but they resequenced 'cause fuck it it was the Machina era and that's just how we DO shit in the Machina era eh?

What do you all think of the Live on 99x acoustic version?

I'm surprised they didn't try it as a single. I consider it in the 1979/perfect/trytrytry family. even moreso than TTT...

Wound > AOI

That said, AOI is top 5 on the album for me. White hot.

Love the distorted guitar around the "too fucked to swear..." part.

This song has never really done anything for me, total throw away. It's fine, whatever. What is the difference between this song and wound?

agree that it should have been a single.

IOTM was a promo single right? TTT was definitely, in gym mind, an odd single choice, but years later i get that song and thinks it's beautiful.

Age of Innocence would’ve been a better single than Everlasting Gaze or SIYL (which I liked but ehhh)

This Time is my fav song on the album but i dunno if i'd pick it as a single over Stand Inside

the fact that SIYL's single status is even being questioned is pretty bizarre to me, to be honest!

It didn’t crack the top ten (well, outside Italy and Spain). So I think it’s cool to question if it was the best single in the Machina deck.

It’s good song, the chorus is a banger but the brooding verses just aren’t radio-friendly imho.

I agree with you. It’s in my top 5 go to SP songs when I feel like binge listening them.
