It's kind of mediocre

Not that some machines tracks aren't

yeah i kinda feel like billy wrote 25 songs using the same metphore ideas so he called a concept-album to cover it up.

awesome song. you could ask the same question about half of the machina 2 tracks, but of course billy had the 2CD thing in mind, apparently. these songs have the most potential for noticeable improvement as remasters, but you can see how they could get screwed up also.

i kind of hope he doesn't mix the 2 albums together, as he's suggested he'll do. listened to them separately for so long it'd be weird having the track order screwed up. also, some of the best machina 2 songs are on the EPs, so they should make it on the album this time, instead of the the remixes and the instrumental.

I've often thought if you combined the best of Machina & Machina 2 into one CD album it could have been the best pumpkins album out of them all. Not a double album though as the songs are not strong enough. Vanity would be in there for me. Sublime song.

I like Vanity alright, but let's be honest... most of Machina II was only heralded because it was their last album, as well as because it's so easy to excuse Machina 1 by saying that it would have been great had Billy submitted a different track list from that era of song writing. The fact is, Machina 1 and 2 ironically have less focus and purpose as "concept albums" than any of his albums that WEREN'T concepts. That era reminds me of Teargarden, actually... just a bunch of songs that don't really fit together cohesively, especially Machina 2.

Surprised by all the tepid opinions of Vanity. It's a really fucking great song. One of the best from either Machina record. I really like the lyrics too.

perhaps but at least it would provide some insight on what his original plan was for a double album. if indeed he had thought it out that far. a new take on something old. it would definitely have me more interested in purchasing it.
