if you don't get outside a lot or you're in a northern area since it's winter right now you probably are deficient in vitamin D, pretty much any doctor will order a blood test for that

I've never been low on D and never go out. Even in summer (well a bit yeah but not enough to really count).

But i do like my milk.

Also, do we know yet if multi vitamins are any good? Because every time i read anything about it like studies and stuff they're all, no it's bullshit, your body doesn't assimilate it has to come from a natural food source or something like that. So i never bothered.

But then that brings the question...since milk is Vitamin D enriched then doesn't that make it not a natural source too shouldn't it then not be properly assimilated too?

Frankly most researches i've read recently about vitamins and essential nutrients are starting to sound like it was mainly all a load of shit to tell us we needed so many in such amounts (but then that wouldn't be surprising the food industry wants us to consume...)... well except some obvious things like...without enough vitamin C you WILL get scurvy and without enough Vitamin D your bones will soften. But there are not as many health benefits to most vitamins as some are trying to claim... I guess it's like...if you don't tell people such and such vitamin is good against cancer or something serious like this, they won't bother taking it. though Vitamin C DOES help against stomach cancer...

I've seen arguments that Vit D fotified in milk gets absorbed because of the fat in the milk. AFAIK there is no proof of this or any other claims for fortified or pilled forms of vitamins/minerals, but I take them anyway. I get them dirt cheap with coupons otherwise I might rethink it.

This is my last result for D. I drink milk and it's still low. This could be why I feel so crappy sometimes.

My alk phos was on the high end when I was on xanax. The dr wasn't so worried about it and said it could be the drug stressing my liver a bit.

everybody i know who goes in for a physical ends up with D deficiency ... and i don't live in a particularly northern state

i think its just the norm now and pretty much required. they sell chocolate/gummy D supplements at about every drug store if you don't want to take the capsules

My vit D as of 2/03/14 was 38.

my alk phosphatase was 121 U/L. ref range 33-115 U/L. and then they checked it again on 07/10 and it was 127 (when they checked my thyroid). they tested me for liver diseases like hep b/c and i dont have any so they said its no big deal

Yeah.. all the dr said was "we're in Montana.. it's common". I don't know if it's that... I grew up in the midwest on the plains where winters were very long and cloudy. I'm gonna try those gummies and see how it goes.

This is my latest. As you can see it's still what I'd consider on the high end. But mine was once right up around 130 ish.

there are also legit questions about the methodology in that metastudy

for example http://www.marksdailyapple.com/are-s...#axzz3P1gXPTjt

i do think it is likely they are useless for most people including myself tho

that **** study aside, the real problem is that despite thousands of studies there is scant evidence that multivitams, fish oil, herbs, etc. provide any health benefit at all. And in the case of substances like Zinc or Vitamin C (high dose long term) they can be harmfull

what if find disturbing is th extent that even simple foods like milk are fortified. Putting vitaimin D in fat free milk, for instance, is useless. Since the it needs to be consumed with fat to ensure that it's absorbed in the gut. In the case of things like kids' cereals simply feeding your child a simple diet that includes a vegetable, fruit and protein every day would avoid the need for fortification.
