I'm not totally sure, but I think, as the ultimate slap in the face, you need U.S. dollars to pay for your visa on arrival. My sleep deprived husband arrived without cash in hand, and spent a good four hours at the airport. He's so used to paying for everything electronically. I think it might help to take a passport sized colour photo if you have one.

He also ended up with food poisoning so maybe avoid salads and fresh juices.

Are you going through Changi?

Sorted that visa nonsense before leaving. And currently AirNZ fly direct to Ho Chi Minh so that’s a win.

have fun in Vietnam, it's fuckin beautiful, great food, friendly people.

when we left and got to Laos, we had to pay some kind of fee when we went through customs and I was dead tired and having trouble finding my american money and my friend is like, "dude just take out your dong," and then we started laughing so hard. I thought we were gonna get deported

My husband thought he'd sorted it before he left, but actually it was only half done. So you might want to double check. But if you have lots of dong, surely that will help you in most situations, I dunno...

I don't think there's really a topic that's off-limits to joke about. It's more what the meaning of the joke is, and what the context is. A joke can be about a certain topic while still being in good taste. Murder, abuse, genocide, there's way to go about it all.

Like, if somebody can make a Holocaust joke that doesn't translate to "haha it's funny that Jews were horribly killed," but rather draws humour from some other element, it could still potentially be funny.
