New Trail of Dead EP - Good?

i'm not sure if the ep's outtakes or new songs, but tracks 1 and 2 definitely sound like inferior st&c material.

track 3 is a well-written pop song. not much else to say about it.

track 4 is pretty lousy, a midtempo acoustic song that features straight-up emo vox singing a barely passable melody and this droning string solo two-thirds of the way through. it's only one step up from dashboard confessional.

track 5, "intelligence," is by far the best track. it rides a slick electronic beat that's obviously 80s influenced, but it also has some climactic guitar freakouts straight out of sonic youth. it's a really, really good song.

It's good. Not as good as ST&C, but good. I like tracks 1 & 3.

during the first 15 seconds of "Intelligence" i was expecting them to break out into a cover of Sonic Youth's "Sunday" any moment.

i think it's good, except for track 4, which is rather.... not good. i'd probably give it a 7/10. track 1 is really good.
